Serving other gods

In today’s ever increasing secular world, it becomes harder and harder to flush out the noise and focus our attention on God.  Sometimes we even get so caught up in “God’s” work that we loose sight of worshipping and spending time with our Father and honing or will to His.  Exodus 20:3-4 says, 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Ex 20:2-4 (ASV)

It is also evident, at least for me, that sometimes we loose sight of what exactly a god can be.  It can be work, striving for the top.  It can be money, it can be attention, it can be getting so caught up in helping others that it becomes our idol.  It can be family, friends, sports, individuals, etc,.  We all know what these are.  Anything that detracts from our worship and moves our attention from God.  Joshua called out the Israelites, 14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Josh 24:14-15 (KJV)  My prayers for us today is that we answer in earnest the way the Israelites did, far be it for us to forsake our God.

Let us put away all of our idols and serve the Lord God Almighty.

In Christ
