I fear that some previous posts could appear toshow that I believe that I subscribe to works based salvation and that is far from true, so let me borrow Paul oce again, 8 for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not of works, that no man should glory. Eph 2:8-9 (ASV)
Paul is quite clear in this passage and others that salvation is by faith andthat you can't work your way to heaven. That said the next verse says, 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them. Eph 2:10 (ASV) James tells us a lot in James 2:14-26 of which I will not post but basically says that faith without works is dead. It has always been my contention that faith is still faith, it just is pretty useless unless you do something with it. Works do not save you but they bring glory to Father to show Jesus through you. Jesys tells us, 16Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.Matt 5:16 (ASV)
So there you have it. Works do not save, faith does, but faith without works is useless and dead. Let us commit, me more so, that we will work to spread the Gospel to a broken world that really needs it.
I must say, If a believer is walking in "faith"...works willnaturally flow (which will justifiy/show our faith)..Such as with Abraham, and Rahab in James 2. " I feel that James 2:26 tho "Faith without works is dead" has been so taken out of context for years in the church by making a believer feel "beat up" for not "doing" enough works to prove themselves worthy...makingthem feel salvation has to be earned by works...We have received Grace, unmerited, unearned favor. Its always what HE done (in the finished work)and not what WE do. Amen?
In Matthew 5:16 ..Yes...when we let our light shine before man, (in the spirit-led flow) "they" (man) see our good works. Christ IN us...which glorifies the Father....
When we help someone in need "they" see Jesus
For from Him, through Him, and to Him are all things. Romans 11:36
Even the "Good Works" created in Christ Jesus were prepared by God "beforehand", that we would walk in them ~selah
I couldn't agree more Sonshine. Faith without works may indeed be a dead faith, but it is still faith. And, as you say, if a person is truly saved then works should naturally follow, although that is not a requirement.
