I was recently sent an e-mail by a friend in my Emmaus reunion group. It had a map that had 11 states highlighted and it said the following:
These 11 states now have mroe people on welfare that they do working. What do they have in common? All have democratic governors and 7 of the 11 voted for Obama. Now I don't care what side of the polctical fence you fall on, but one thing that get my ire up is this:
When you say that they have more people on welfare than working, what is defined as welfare? is it the children of parents who work, have insurance but they make so little money that their kids have Medicaid? Is that welfare? DOes it include 65 year olds on Social Security and Medicare? Are these people welfare? Does include the seasonally unemployed that receive TANF, SNAP and other temporary assistance due to seasonal employment or the recent recession? Does it include the severly disabled that receive assistance just to live?
What the obvious intent of the email is to demonize democrats and say how bad they are, but at the same time you demonize certian classes of individuals by feeding the scathing rhetoric that is in thsi country today. Unfortunaltely in my business, I see people that try and beat the system at every turn, but it is my experience that the majority of people taht receive asistance have legitimate reasons and they are in every state including the RED states.
