Absolute Authority of God's Word

Absolute Authority of God's Word

IS GOD'S WORD THE ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY IN YOUR LIFE? This is a rather critical question that must be explored, as the answer is one that leads us to victory, or sheds light on the pathway to destruction. When we pray and meditate on this question, as it relates to the prayer walker and prayer warrior, it must be understood that one can not expect to fight the “good fight” if they have any question or doubt of the truth of God's Word. A true warrior for Christ must place his or her unconditional trust in the Lord; believing (without any doubt) in the power, authority and dominion of God's Word; which is theirs through Jesus Christ. Faith in God's Word is what sets us apart from the world. “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” - John 17:17

This message, like most, was one that was learned from experience. Looking back to my teenage years, I remember questioning that which I read in the Bible, even to the point of questioning the very existence of God. It was my belief, during this time, that the Bible was a book of stories and that Genesis was merely a literary form to present God's work of creation “symbolically,” much like the parables used by Jesus.

As a student in Catholic High School and then for a short time at a Catholic College, my beliefs were given further credibility by some of my professors and a few Catholic priests that I encountered. Based upon their training and positions of authority, I began to trust that which I had come to believe, because it fell in line with their thinking. Unfortunately, what I failed to understand is that my belief systems were built upon a foundation of lies, not rooted in the Truth.

As I would find out in my 20's and early 30's, when one is not rooted in the Truth of God's Word, the fruits of this rejection are rather problematic and destructive. Galatians 5:19-21 - “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

On the radio program, I discussed the many hardships that my family and I endured as we came to the knowledge of God as the Truth and ultimate authority in our lives. I thank Him for those times of difficulty, as the Lord mightily revealed who He is. I hold fast to His word, which tells us that those who trust in the Lord and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, will demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit......AMEN. Galatians 5:22-23 - “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Christian Apologetics

One of the problems that I find with the believer is in regards to their ability to “give answers” in defense of their faith. As a Christian, it is important to know what it is that you believe and believe what you know. In fact, God expects His children to be able to espouse what they believe and intelligently defend the truth of the gospel. In 1 Peter 3:15 we read, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” That it's why we must spend time with the Lord and “eat and drink” of His Word.

Again, let's review 1 Peter 3:15, with specific focus on the word “answer.” In some translations we will find the word “defense” in its place. However, the important thing to note is that the translations are derived from the Greek word apologia; which simply means “speaking in defense.” The early Christian writers were called apologists. This was due to their defense of the faith against skeptics, as well as advancing the Christian faith to unbelievers.

Christian Apologetics, which has taken form over many centuries, can be further explained as a disciplined defense of Christianity, against attacks, misrepresentations, and objections, while exposing the errors and falsehoods that are presented as truths by other religious systems and those offering false gospels. To simply state this, the believer is giving an account (a reason) for why they believe, with all meekness, humility and love. 1 Corinthians 8:1 reads, “Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.” Unfortunately, this is something that most Christians can not do.

And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be

gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

- 2 Timothy 2:24-26

So how does this relate to spreading the Good News of jesus? As you travel into areas that you are called to by the Lord, you will encounter those who don't have the ears to hear. You may be confronted by individuals or groups who don't know Jesus, and the true Gospel of the Lord is foreign to them. You may also experience attacks and objections by those who are believing upon a counterfeit gospel. When called, you must provide an intelligent defense of what it is that you believe. Such a defense can not be feeling based or built upon an intellectual foundation; for one can not approach a spiritual problem with an intellectual answer. Titus 1:9 provides us with further understanding of this topic and reads, “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”

The point that I'm trying to make is quite simple. Are you under the complete and total authority of the Word of God? Do you know what you believe and believe what you know? This is something that you must must pray fervently about, as the answer is essential to the Christian warrior. Ephesians 6:12- “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

The American Churches Role In This Deception

As I look at the American church as a whole, I see a church that is greatly divided, fragmented and confused. Like I have said so many times before on the radio program, this is all part of the devils strategy. He wants to keep us divided because he knows that a united church has tremendous power through Jesus Christ. So indeed, he is fighting very hard to keep that spirit of confusion heavily upon us.

For many decades a false gospel has been preached from many pulpits, which can be characterized as a gospel infiltrated by world view. It may sound very appealing to one's ears, but there in lies the root of it's deception.......feelings. These type of “feel good” messages are delivered right from the pits of hell and carry no power in the believers life. They are just words void of authority, which give a temporary joy. And that my dear brothers and sisters is what is being delivered in many of today's so-called Christian churches.

As we witness the fall of America, we find that the problem lies not in our governmental system, but in the hearts and minds of the people. When I prayed about this the Lord took me to Romans Chapter 1, in which He gave me a deeper understanding of the spiritual nature of the problem facing America. It also allowed me to further explore this issues of the absolute authority of God's Word. With that being said, the verses that I would like to focus on are found in Romans 1:28-32, in which Paul wrote, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

Are the words, which the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1, a rather relevant explanation of the state of depravity facing our people and nation? Would one be correct to suggest that the church has allowed man's wisdom and world view to shape church doctrine and compromise the Gospel? If the answers to the above questions are anything but an answers in the affirmative, then I would emphatically declare that such responses were delivered by one who has been deceived. The fact is that the absolute authority of God's Word has been exchanged, for a thought driven and deceitful word of man, void of any moral foundation. Rather, it has been built upon man's wisdom and understanding; which can only be characterized as ever-changing and fallible. That is why we are witnessing the many positions of compromise on such issues as abortion, homosexuality, sexual morality, and marriage. This nation has truly turned from the absolute authority of God's word, which has resulted in a reprobate mind, or a mind that is morally unprincipled and evil. There are truly consequences to turning against God as the moral authority for a nation and a people, and that is why this nation has come under judgment.

Statistics would indicate that approximately 80% of Americans are professing Christians. However, statistics only relay what is being spoken out of the mouths of the people, as it does not take into account a person's heart. The reality is that America is not a Christian nation. Many may call themselves followers of Jesus, but the way in which they walk is most certainly not the walk of a true follower of Christ. And there lies the problem............the Church.

The problems that we are now facing are the result of the lukewarm American Church, which, for the most part, has departed from the absolute authority of God's Word. Absolute authority means that there are no conditions attached to God's Word. There's no room for compromise, there's no limitations and there's certainly no restrictions to God's Word as the absolute authority in the believers' lives. However, this message is not being relayed by far to many professing Christians. Compromise and the re-defining of the Word of God seems to be the dominant trait, in the lives of a majority of Christians. To the believer, God's Word is perfect, it is infallible and it is the TRUTH. The Word of God is the standard by which we are to live our lives (conduct), maintain order in the Church and remain united in doctrine. God's Word never changes, as it remains the same and is final.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you,

neither shall ye diminish ought from it,

that ye may keep the commandments of the

Lord your God which I command you.

- Deuteronomy 4:2

Attacking the Foundation (The Plans of Darkness)

Hebrews 4:12-13 tell us: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” This is why darkness is fighting so hard to blind and confuse the people to the truth. Unfortunately, this strategy has been very effective on far to many people; including those who say they are believers. And at this time I ask that you keep all those who are lost in your prayers. For we are truly engaged in a spiritual battle that seeks to steal souls.

The absolute authority of God's Word seems to be a foreign idea in the minds of many who call themselves Christians. Some may take this as a rather bold statement or may be offended by what I'm writing, but what I'm espousing is evident in today's “everything is okay” society. All one needs to do is take the time to look at the bigger picture. If you have listened to the program, you know exactly what I'm writing about. This relates to the plans and schemes of the devil to attack the foundation; which is the truth of the Word of God. What we are witnessing is the crumbling of that foundation right before our very eyes; in our homes, schools, government, workplace, churches, and etc.

Society depends upon a moral foundation; a framework that facilitates order through laws, codes of conduct, social contract, or mutual agreements to bring about order and civility. Without such a foundation, society would collapse into utter chaos. That is exactly what darkness seeks for this world......a total collapse. So how can this be accomplished? Attack the foundations. I believe at the time of this writing, we are beginning to see the cracks and crumbling of this foundation; which will lead to the total destruction of all that which have come to know as the United States of America. Please don't take this as a message of fear, for it is not. Rather it is a message of hope for the true followers of Christ. We, as a people who know Jesus Christ, shall find our shelter under the wing of the Almighty. The fear that I am speaking of will be experienced by those who don't hold fast to the TRUTH, the Word of God. And this is to whom we are to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ.

How does this message relate to the Christian? For many decades we have witnessed the attack on the foundation of Christianity; the infallible Word of God. In one example, the public school system, we have allowed the religion of atheism and secular humanism to indoctrinate our children. The public school system took an anti-god stance by removing prayer and promoting a false gospel of the anti-christ; which the Church stood by and did nothing. We have believed that the schools system was a place of neutrality. However, the Word of God clearly tells us otherwise. Matthew 12:30 - “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”

The public school system has come against the Biblical truths, by launching their attack at the very beginning, the Book of Genesis. They have used evolution and the lies of the homosexual agenda to attack creation and model of marriage. With approximately 90% of Christians sending their children to public schools, it's no wonder that this generation has a problem with the authority of God's Word. They have been taught by darkness that the Creation story was a lie. Just like satan did in the Garden of Eden, he is telling our children that God's Word is not to be trusted, and they are believing that lie. That's why two-thirds of Christian children will leave the Church by the time they finish college.

Compromise is the destructive fruit that has been produced by a lukewarm church which stands outside the authority of God's Word. We are seeing the acceptance of sinful lifestyles and destructive behaviors by those who are re-defining the Word of God to fit with their world views. They have even re-defined the love of Christ to mean compromise and acceptance of sin without conviction or judgement. Essentially, they are promoting a feel-good gospel that accepts the sin identity.

Man's ideas are more accepted as the truth in every nation that has ever fallen. When this happens, the spirit of confusion reigns free in the land. When one is unsure of what is the truth, they begin to entertain the lies of darkness. Is this not what is taking place in the United States? And it comes down to one very important question – Who is the absolute authority in your life, God or man?

As Christians we are not to pick and choose what we believe. We are not to take God's Word and mold it in our image, so that it fits with our lifestyles. We are to be obedient servants who are under the ownership of the Lord and under the sovereignty of His Word. However, what we are attempting to do is build a world-pleasing church whose structure is not built upon any foundation. This is what we are witnessing today, a restructuring of the Word of God to confirm to man's opinions. Compromise and acceptance of man's ideas is the reason why the church is not unified on issues such as – abortion, gay-marriage, the roles of men and women in the Church, Creation, and other such issues.

Jesus Christ is the foundation which can not be destroyed. This is the absolute truth that must be understood. No one can ever destroy that foundation because it was built by God. However, it man's knowledge of the Creator and the Truth of His Word, that is under siege. Darkness seeks to remove that Truth from our minds, by putting in front of us his fruits of deception. Unfortunately, many in the church are joyfully receiving and eating of that which is forbidden. 1 Timothy 4:1 - Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.”

Once again, I must re-iterate that if we are to fully understand the problems we are facing as a nation, we must look to the failings of the American Church. The moral and cultural issues have not fully been addressed from the standpoint of authority of God's Word. For the most part, we have fought this battle from the viewpoint of man, mixed with the Truth. This is not the way to fight this spiritual war. For this battle must be fought under the complete sovereignty and authority of the Word of God.

1 Corinthians 2:16 says, For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. To have the mind of Christ, we must be under the total authority of the Word of God. We can't be partially or somewhat “in.” We must be 100% committed.
