Whats Involved In Obeying God ?

I Samuel 15:1-23

At the very core of a relationship with God through Jesus Christ is obedience. Our sins are forgiven and we are plunged into fellowship with our Lord through the shed blood of Jesus as an atonement for our sin. We make Him our Lord. That means we choose to obey Him. Obedience to God is the most important thing we can do in our lives. It should be our goal above all goals. King Saul chose to diobey Gods will, even though it had clearly been revealed to him. But what is involved in obeying God ?

First, we must choose to make obeying Him our greatest priorty. If there are things in our lives that are more important than walking obediently with Him then we will find it hard to live a truly obedient life. Obedience must be vital for us. It must be our bread, our water, and our air.

Second, it involves finding out what Gods will is. We must take the time to seek His will. How can we obey if we do not know what He wants us to do. God wants to show us His will. He may not show us the end from the beginning but He will show us what He wants us to do right now, what He wants our first steps to be. As we seek His will daily, we will find that we have developed a life of obedience.

Third, we must get to know God. As we do we learn how He thinks, what He desires and how He acts in peoples lives. As we get to know Him we will find that knowing His will is easier. We know Him so well that we know His will about many things without even having to pray and seek it. We know what He wants because we know Him.

Fourth, we must find out what our Spiritual gifts and talents are. God has given us abilities that He wants us to use for His glory. How can we use them if we do not know what they are ? There are many ways to know what your spiritual gifts are. There are tests that you can take online for one thing. We can also know what he has gifted us to do by trying different things. Also His gifts will usually be in an area that interests you. An area that is natural for you. Sometimes God does call us to step out of our comfort zones, but more often than not He calls us to minister in the areas that we are gifted to work in.

Obedience to God is essential. You can never know His best when you are choosing to rebel against Him. The wisest choice you can make is to make obedience to Holy God your lifestyle.
