“Right on time,” “That was very timely,” “Perfect, perfect, perfect timing”….. a few of the phrases that others have spoken to me lately. Not at all do I think it is a coincidence that the exact similitude of phrases have been uttered in my hearing over the past few days. What I do believe, though, is that God is drawing my attention to His meticulous timing.
I cannot help but stand in awe at the gentle signals God gives to us, that we may hear and heed to His voice and continue on in His will. We have to remember that God does little things, as such, to speak to our hearts during the quietest and even the most raging times of our lives. We have to make sure our spiritual senses, as I like to say, are heightened and sensitive to His voice… and being sensitive to God is being sensitive to our surroundings [people, atmospheres, events, etc].
One moment of time determines whether we will cross paths with someone or we or we will not ….whether we will catch or miss the flight….whether we escape an accident or we do not. In no way am I trying to stir feelings of fear within you, but rather remind you to be aware of God’s timing and to be thankful that it is at work in your life. The timing of God is vital, so much that it determines the course of our days….our lives…OUR DESTINIES.
We are told that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven” (Eccles. 3:1).
“It is beautiful how God has done everything at the right time. He has put a sense of eternity in people's minds. Yet, mortals still cannot grasp what God is doing from the beginning to the end [in time]” (Eccles. 3:11 GWT)
Do you know of any mortal whose timing is unequivocally perfect and exact?
It is not within our own intellectual grasp (Eccles. 3:11), but our omniscient God, alone, holds time in His hands. God restrains things from being revealed to us that He may manifest in His own appointed time (2 Thess. 2:6). He has made it to where all things, both in Heaven and in Earth, await the fullness of their time until their proper dispensation [proper order] (Eph. 1:10).
God, Himself, is not bound by time, though...and we all know that God’s timing is not and cannot be measured by clocks or calendars or confined within the restraints of man. If that were so, it would not say “that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (2 Pet. 3:8). In other words, God does not know time as we know it.
I do not know of anything more precise than God’s timing. As children of God who are being transformed daily, we begin to discover His “good, acceptable, and perfect will” (Rom. 12:2) for our lives. His impeccable timing is synchronized with His perfect will. It seems to be a mystery, yet it is a mystery that can only be revealed through the Holy Spirit that abides within the heart of every believer in Christ. So, though it may be that we do not know the exact timing of God, we can, however, walk out [proceed through life with] the exact timing of God for our lives.
So, how do you know your life is aligned with God’s perfect timing for it? As it is on any journey, there are signs that reassure that the route taken is the correct one. Our job is to be the best passenger [the best sojourner] possible, as we journey to our destination. The Vehicle is Christ….the Holy Spirit is the driver….and the Father awaits us, having laid out the road map. Without this order, there is no guaranteed alignment with God’s timing [and will] for our lives. Be alert….God is known for sending signs of confirmation and reassurance.
The number one way we know how our lives are aligned with God’s timing and will is by walking in OBEDIENCE. If you're walking in disobedience to God, you're not walking in alignment with God. Obedience [or disobedience] governs the course of our lives. Obedience orders our steps (Ps. 27:23 KJV) and directs our paths (Prov. 3:6 KJV). It keeps us in step with the Spirit (Gal. 5:25 NIV). Obedience to His Word(s)…..on the pages of the Bible and off the pages….knowing that His Word will never contradict…never cause harm….and never result in evil, because it is only “good and perfect gifts that come down to us from God our Father” (Jam. 1:17 NLT).
This is what was said concerning the children of Isaachar: they “understood the times and knew what Israel should do” (1 Chron. 12:32 NIV). So, here’s my Word to you…
1. Plug into God so that you can understand the times and season that He has you in…so you can discern what should be done.
2. Do not fret! “Our times are in His hands” (Ps. 31:15). Everything that concerns you has its proper timing. There is a time for every matter and purpose and for every work (Eccles. 3:17)
3. Have confidence in the TRUTH! “Our times and seasons are in God’s authority” (Acts 1:7)
So, it’s time to plug in…Time to tune in…Time to adjust our station….so that we have clear reception. As we move farther into the ‘end times’, God is going to increase our discerning of the times and reveal His will for our lives.
