",,,LORD, ARE THERE FEW THAT BE SAVED ?"...WILL YOU BE ONE OF THEM ???
We generally do not quote biblical verses in order to validate the point that we are attempting to make because we assume that all “claiming Christians” have read the Bible. However, like the various notions that most “claiming Christians have concerning their religious persuasion, we are probably wrong… But, this particular point is so extremely important that biblical quotes are necessary to show that this is not some random notion but the words of God. The difficulties of reaching true salvation and eternal existence in the presence of God are far more than the average person wants to believe. We have spoken before that just saying a few words and maybe attending services is not going to get anyone anywhere. Christianity is a way of life, not a way of thinking and few choose that way..
Jesus is speaking to the multitude on the mount and so His words are meant for everyone and not just some particular group. And, at one point, He tells the multitude the complexities of getting into heaven.
Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
At another point, Jesus is walking towards Jerusalem and there are many with him, and so again we can understand that these words were meant for everyone.
Luke 13:24-25 “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
When once the master of the house has risen up, and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:”
It would be pretty difficult for anyone to dismiss these words as being of little significance when Jesus, Himself, tells us that it is not going to be easy to get through the gate. We are told that many will be led down the road to destruction and we are told that few will enter into the gate to eternal life in His presence.
Any reasonable individual cannot deny the importance of these words, however, many seemed to have done just that. We have been given the Bible which man has decided to alter for his own convenience and then we wonder why we will hear “..I know you not…” we cannot alter the requirements that God has given us for salvation and expect to achieve this gift, but that is exactly what most groups have done. As we read through the Bible, we see that certain things must be done in order to a true Christian, Also, there are some things that will happen to us that will test our commitment.
1 Peter 4:12 “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:”
Here, we see that a true Christian will be tested and not by some easy trial like the air conditioner in your car does not work on a hot day. These tests are going to be extremely difficult and so they should be considering the reward. If a person has not been tested it would appear that the door will be closed to them. And, anyone getting their information concerning the requirements for salvation from any altered Bible is taking a very large risk. We know that only a few will be chosen worthy, it just seems foolish to take any chances when the true words, lessons, teachings, doctrine and requirements as so available to us all !!!
