Im sure we all know how it feels to be all torn up inside. Each of us has experienced the to and fro of emotions that seem to be out of control. We do not know what to think or feel. One moment we feel one thing and the next moment we feel something else. Our hearts and minds seem to be reeling.
These feelings can be caused by many things. A sudden loss for example. Or we can feel out of control when we have been betrayed by someone we trusted.Feelings of fear, confusion, anxiety can all hit us at once. And we can go back and forth between emtional pain and faith in God. Its as if our emotions are at war within us. Daubt is at war with faith. Fear is at war with courage. Pain is at war with comfort and the list of conflicting emotions could go on.
But in verse 9 of this passage we see that God makes wars to cease. He is in control and He can make all of the frustrationa and conflicting emotions within us to cease. We do not have to be all torn up inside. We can take all of our confusion and our conflicting emotions to Him and He will help us (v.1). We must submit our out of control emotions to Him and trsut Him to calm us. We are to "be still and know" that He is God. That He is in control, of even our own warring emotions. if we fail to seek Him and allow Him to calm us, leaning on him, we will continue to feel agitated inside and torn up. We will stay tossed to and fro by our emotions.
It may sound easier than it is and i know from experience that our emotions can run wild with us, especially if we have been hurt. But the wises thing we can do is call on God to make the wars within us to cease. He is our helper. And with His help anything is possible!
