OBTAINING THE GIFT OF GOD REQUIRES THAT WE FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL !!!
God in His love for mankind has offered to each one of us a gift so incredible that it cannot be comprehended by the human mid. We have done nothing worthy of being offered this gift, in fact, we constantly disappoint God with our actions and ways of life. Yet, for reasons known only to Him, He decided to offer this gift to every person without exception. Although this gift is without equal, it is not dissimilar to all gifts that we receive from friends or family. Often times these gifts require assembly or at least instructions on how to use the gift properly.
Our gift from God comes with an instruction manual… Many people believe that once we accept this gift, and we do have to accept it, that there is nothing else that we need to do. But, this is not actually the case. The gift is the opportunity to achieve eternal salvation, but we must learn how to use the elements of this gift before we can achieve the ultimate goal and that is why we are given the instruction manual. Like any other gift that we receive, we can just put it in the closet and never use it, or we can learn how to assemble or perform the necessary procedures for realizing the full potential of what we have received.
In this particular case, we must make a total commitment to our Lord to attempt to live in the manner described in the instruction manual. Although we can never achieve such behavior, our responsibility is to constantly try, but when we fail, we receive another part of the gift, forgiveness. Assuming that because we receive forgiveness does not mean that we can do anything we want without concern of some sort of chastisement; that is if we have made an honest and total commitment. Repeated and intentional sin will be dealt with as He sees fitting the sin. Accepting the offer of this gift requires a change in heart and often, a change in behavior. It is not automatic but, requires constant and honest effort on our part.
Those who believe that all we need to do is accept this gift and everything else will come to us without any effort on our part is sadly mistaken. We are told many times that salvation is a process and if we do not follow the process according to the instruction manual, just like any other gift, it will not work properly, if at all. Once a person accepts this gift, it then becomes their own personal responsibility to understand and attempt to follow the instructions. It is not something that anyone else can do for us, although others can help us, we must do it ourselves.
Jesus tells us many times that the gate is very small and few will pass through. If that statement alone does not tell us that achieving the completion of our education and attempt to follow the example that Jesus has given to us is not just simple acceptance, then we really have a problem and no chance of understanding. We are given the Bible to give us the necessary instructions, but we must read it and study it constantly and ask for guidance for understanding. There is nothing difficult but remember that our faith will be tested. Christianity is a way of life and not a way of thinking, and when you get through the lessons and tests, we will all meet in paradise !!!
