We know the Father through You. You and the Father are one. So often we perceive the Holy Spirit as the most mysterious aspect of God, but I’m not so sure that it isn’t the Father. We know You best because You took on the form we know best – that of a human. We imagine the Father as a paternal patriarch (another human image), and the Spirit as a descending combination of fire and fowl. People we can figure out. But animals and elements of nature are a bit trickier. Thus the Spirit seems more mysterious.
However, in reality, I think the Father is the aspect of God we know least about. Following the knowledge of God from You and Your life comes the aura of the spirit (perceptible but not sentient) apparent all around us every day. The Spirit permeated Your life and it permeates (in perceptible ways) the life of each person who loves and follows You.
We do not reflect upon the same contexts for the Father. In fact, it may just be that in all the recorded dealings of God with man the aspect of God known as the Son was the sole agent. The Son thus becomes the exclusive link with mankind for all things in our relationship with God. The Son walked and talked with Adam and Eve (or those they represent); the Son spoke through the burning bush; the Son made covenant with Abraham; the Son spoke to the prophets, etc. In short, Old Testament Yahweh was You! That is to say, whatever aspect of God can be known by us is You. The aspect of God known as the Son, as Jesus Christ, affirms and underlines the absoluteness of Christianity and all the theology behind it. You are the focal point of both the Father and the Spirit in our lives – our whole lives.
God so loves the world that He forever comes in You; even as You told us that to know You is to know the Father.
