Decisions are things that we must make constantly, but generally spend little or no time considering the consequences of the action. God has promised everyone that He will give them wisdom if we ask Him for it and that should be the first part of any decision making that we must do. Often times, we make a decision on impulse and find out that it was a mistake. We are constantly told by advertising that we must have certain things and we are told this over and over again until we are convinced that we need it.
We have all heard of the glass being half empty or half full and we can put ourselves in one of those categories, but most people want to believe they look at things in the half full or positive side because they feel it makes them easy going and optimistic. But, we should look more closely at the half empty type person who considers the negative side of everything before they make a decision. This person considers every option or consequence of the decision and decides on the basis of whether or not he or she can handle the worst possible condition. If they find during that thought process that there may be a condition that they do not want or could not handle, then the decision is no. In this way, no matter what happens, they are prepared and find things going smoothly. The person who does not consider the negative, sometimes runs into a road block and is disappointed because thought was not given to the negative side. This action does not make a person optimistic or pessimistic, just one is always satisfied while the other becomes disappointed many times.
Now, we know nothing much about anything regardless of how intelligent we may think we are. The reality is that we are human and not capable of knowing the future. God, however, is not hindered by anything and not only knows the future, He creates it… If we have any intelligence than we should recognize that the only place to go before we even begin to think about a decision is to go to Him and ask for wisdom and assistance. We must remember that many of our decisions have a large impact not only on us but others, which includes our most precious gifts, our children.
Do not let what other people think of you interfere with your decision making process. If others call you pessimistic, it is a decision that they have made and it is wrong. And, remember Satan is always there attempting to influence you to make decisions that will be wrong so that you are disappointed and begin to blame God for your problems. God would not have told us that He would give all of wisdom if we ask, but we must ask !!! We should never think that the objective of our lives is happiness because happiness is only a temporary condition. Contentment is our goal and blessed is the one who finds it…
