After the Israelites escaped from Egypt, they almost immediately began to disobey God. The Old Testament gives us insight into the nature of man, so this is not surprising. At one point, the people approach Moses and complained about the lack of water. Moses does the proper thing and goes to God and He tells Moses to smite the rock and water will come out of it. Moses hits the rock with his staff a few times, and water begins to pour out and the people get their water… So, after forty years wandering around the desert, God brings Moses to the top of a hill and shows him all of the lands that He will give to the people, however Moses will not cross the river but will die before the people get the land. And, God tells Moses that one of the reasons that Moses will not go over to the Promised Land is because Moses smote the rock to get the water more than once, but hit it a few times… Now, this seems like a trivial thing,, but to God, it indicated a lack of faith and disobedience because God had told Moses to smite the rock only once.
As we read the stories in the Old Testament, we are shown that when the people did what God wanted them to do that the result was success. But, we also see that when the people decided on their own, or altered the instructions of God, that things never seemed to work out as the people were hoping. God is very specific with His instructions and does not like it when they are not followed !!! But, now we are in the New Testament time and things are different… Well, if you think that is true, you are in for a big surprise when you try to enter Heaven. God is very specific concerning His will and the New Testament did not change that aspect, nor will it ever change…
If you were to ask any claiming Christian what is their religious conviction, they would tell you that they are Baptist or Congregationalist or Catholic or any other of the huge number of denominations that claim to be Christian. The only proper answer to this question is that I AM A CHRISTIAN !!! There should not be any other denomination than that, but unfortunately, there are many, all of which have altered the written will of God for various reasons. We were given the rules and doctrine not as suggestions, but as the way to behave and achieve salvation. It is not up to us to decide whether we agree or disagree, it is up to us to obey.
God knows that we are weak and easily influenced by our desires, of course we always can expect a little help from Satan, and He excuses these weaknesses. But, He does not excuse altering His words because it is convenient for us or it is politically correct. And, claiming ridiculous aspects in order to justify behavior is just foolishness. A lesbian said that the Bible says that man should not have sexual relations with man, but it does not mention anything about women and therefore it is acceptable with God to be a lesbian.. And, there are many other just as foolish excuses that people use to alter the Bible. If God was upset with Moses for striking the rock more than once, He certainly is not going to be happy with taking on His position of authority and changing His words.
Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in therat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
We see by this statement that few will find their way into the kingdom of God and it certainly is not going to be anyone that did not attempt to follow His will. Making alterations to the Bible probably comes under the heading of things that God will not accept as reasonable and forgivable. There is one God, there is one proper Bible and there should only be one denomination: CHRISTIAN !!!
