Today was the first time that I can remember that I asked someone to "agree with me in prayer". Notice I didn't say "pray with me or for me", but actually "agree" with me. Once again, I am in a transition period in my life and constantly sending out prayers concerning my situation and then this morning during my studies the Holy Spirit led me to this...
"Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."
After reading this, I got the revelation that I need someone to "agree with me", a partner, a prayer partner. Who better to call on than the one who I plan to spending the rest of my life with. Of course in the past, I've had others pray with me and for me, but I have never sought out a prayer partner, with the intent of having someone to "agree with me" concerning my situation. Honestly, I never saw the need. I mean there are a number of verses in the Bible that talks about the prayers of an individual, but today, I saw the power of two, the power of being in "agreement" with another believer.
Let us not overlook the times in Scripture when we read that the saints and the church was in "one accord" with each other, because whenever we read it, we see that it was always followed by the move of the power of God. I myself, just never saw it in terms of my personal needs, wants and desires. I saw it as just for the needs of the church as a whole. Even when I've prayed with others about their own situation, for the most part, I didn't see it as me "agreeing" with them. And as I mentioned earlier, I've had people pray for me, but I didn't take it as them being in "agreement" with me.
***I am just reminded to make an purposeful effort to ask about a persons concerns and not just pray for them. Ask them what they would like for me to "agree" with them about, because if I don't know their concerns, how can there be an "agreement"? And God is looking for "agreement"***
Therefore this day and moving forward, I have been instructed to invite Jesus in the midst of any concern of mines and the concerns of others that we can have "agreement" in prayer. This is why people are coming to us for prayer;(1) their need for "agreement" and (2) their need for Jesus to be in the midst of their concerns.
Jesus is yearning to be in the midst of our situations, He is just waiting for us to partner up with another and have them "agree" concerning the things which we ask. This is His invitation. Be it binding or loosing things on this earth, Jesus says, "it will be done" as we have "agreement concerning anything that we ask". The power of "agreement".
it only takes two.
***God is a God of covenants, looking for covenant partners. So should we.
