Tearing It Down, And Building It Back Up...

My wife and I find ourselves watching these "home makeover" shows from time to time. There's one in particular where two brothers take on potential buyers who want much more in a home than their budget will allow.

They take them instead to houses which are much more in line with their budgets, but are in great need of repair. Then the brothers ask their clients to invision them as their potential "dream homes." At first, almost everyone has a big problem seeing any promise in these run down, pathetic houses.

However, with some redesign ideas modeled on a computer, the buyers are convenced that their greatest desires for a home can actually be realized with a little faith and trust in these brothers. When all is said and done, most all buyers are very satisfied with the results. They get a great home, with many of their original desires, but for a lot less money...

When you think about it, this is something like how God may work in our lives. He sees a potential in us, but He must "tear down" the things which hold back our maturity and usefulness. Then, He begins to "rennovate" us from the inside out, making us into the type of Christians which are beautiful in His sight, and who can be greatly helpful in bringing lost souls to the Savior!

However, as with the buyers on the show, it takes the desire to see potential in ourselves as a vital tool for God's use. Then there needs to be a willingness to trust and believe in God's ability to "redesign" us.

If we can bring ourselves around to this kind of mindset, and allow our Lord to take control of our lives, many dreams can be realized, both now and in the glory of eternal salvation!
