Quite often we attend to the “human condition” as it constantly impacts the spiritual life. The “condition” of being human may be considered something of a self-imposed appendage to our intended destiny – a choice made somewhere along the line, inherited and perpetuated. When one sits back and contemplates the panorama of human history, the condition of being human (with all its ramifications) is the dominant factor of influence. We make choices based on the influence of the condition of our humanity, and this dictates our actions. When we look back at governments, wars, inventions, philosophies, industries, cultures, systems of education, religions, and so on, the human condition is obviously the foundational undercurrent.
Basing the emphases of our lives on our humanity and allowing that condition to hold sway over our actions and decisions is truly a well-traveled road, but nonetheless a detour. Habituation, peer-pressure, and the search for comfort stemming from our human condition are smokescreens to our hidden interior spiritual essence. If we were all truly in touch with this essence, with the ground of our very being, how insignificant would become the “human condition.” The clap-trap, trivia, efficiency and pseudo progress so humanly dear to our government, industry, culture and even religion would be rendered less significant. Yet, that being said, the “condition” is not only chronic but unavoidable. It is left as the imperfect channel through which we are compelled to seek perfection. And the truth is, You know this better than we do. You have experienced all the constraints and meanderings of the human condition for Yourself and You know well that with which we struggle. This in itself is the greatest hope and consolation of the human condition.
