Blog 30: The Most Important Command

There’s a ton of sermons & lessons over love, so why are so many Christians I meet confused about what love is. So I’m just going to tell you the most common points about love. 1- GOD loves you more than you can imagine, & 2- Lobe is the greatest commandment & second greatest commandment, Matthew 22:37-40.
What I don’t hear is what loves is or what types there are. I’ve only heard sermons on how to love, which doesn’t help very much since it doesn’t explain what love is, & that we’re loved & suppose to love. Those are important, but it’s just as important to know what love is, as much as how to do it. There’s a book in the Bible that I’ve never heard of, never heard it in a sermon, never heard a discussion about, not even the name. It’s called Song of Songs, & Song of Songs 8:6-7 has a beautiful description of what love is, not complete but beautiful. I’m sure some of us know 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, or at least what it talks about. It tells you exactly what love is.
From my Bible studies so far, I’ve figured out 4 parts of love that’s suppose to make up the love we have.
1. Everlasting Love (Jeremiah 31:3). That explains itself, our love should never stop, no matter what someone else does, or what they don’t do. It can be tough to love someone sometimes, but that’s the time when they’ll need love the most, so if you need to ask GOD to help you love them in that time.
2. Forgiving Love (Jeremiah 31:3, Matthew 5:43-48, Luke 6:27-38, & Romans 12:14). Part of loving people, which includes our enemies, is being able to forgive them.
3. Active Love (John 13:34-35, & Romans 13:8). Active love shows others your love & that we love them, & fulfills GOD’s plan for us & our love.
4. Unloseable Love (Romans 8:35-39). No matter what someone does to you, you can still love them, even if you’re mad at them, they’ll always have your love.
Though we’re told how to, what to, & why we should love, some of us can find it hard. The reason we find it hard to love, is because it’s not a natural human emotion. It’s an emotion given to us by GOD when we’re with him, Galatians 5:22-23. Though we do have a type of love already in us, it’s not the love the Bible talks about. That love only comes from being with GOD.
