Blog 29: Patience Is A Virtue

There’s a common old saying, “Patience is a virtue.” But if you’re like me, you’ve never really paid attention to it before. But according to the Bible patience is a good thing, & there are things worth waiting for, first of all GOD. But also sex (meant for marriage only), saving up money for a good (not a bad thing to have money saved up, look at Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University), doing work for GOD, ext. Look at how long Jacob waited to get married to Racheal, Genisis 29:20-28, how long Jesus waited before he started his ministry, which from my understanding, was around the time he was crucified, so around 30 years.
When we don’t wait on GOD when we have to, like we need to wait on him & take it to our own hands, bad things could happen, 1 Samuel 13:8-14, or when Judas told the guards where Jesus was because he thought Jesus wasn’t working fast enough. Jesus planned on him being crucified, but I doubt he wanted Peter to chop off the guys ear. Waiting on GOD always gets the best results for you & anyone affected by it. King David waited for years before he stepped up to be king, & he didn’t try to force his hand or GOD’s hand. When Joseph was a slave, & then a prisoner, he waited for GOD to work through him, & look at the rewards they got for their patience.
GOD wants everyone to wait on him, even Jesus had to wait him, & he is GOD. He told Habukkuk to be patient when he was angry at the sin in the world, Habukkuk 1:1-2:3. A good way to get patience is to be in GOD & with him. It’s one of the 9 fruits of the spirit, Galations 5:22-23. He repeatedly tells us to be patient, Habukkuk 2:3, Colossians 3:12, 2 Peter 1:5-9, Revelation 6:11. He tells us the reward, 2 Peter 1:10-11. So maybe it’s hard to be patient, but in the end, waiting on GOD is worth it.
