What Is Better Than Rubies?

Do you love riddles? Here’s one. What is better than rubies? Whose fruit is better than gold? If you find this you find life. If you have this the favor of the Lord is promised to be on you. It produces happiness. In its right hand there is length of days, in its left, riches and honor.  The mouth of the righteous talks with it. You can build a house by it. With it you can sleep well. It will protect you from fear.  Ok, here is the last clue. The virtuous woman speaks with it. Know the answer? If you said wisdom you are correct. In the book of Proverbs Solomon listed every one of these clues I gave you as items that were found in wisdom.

The dictionary defines “wisdom” as “the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action, discernment, or insight”. Obviously this is an ingredient that is missing in every arena of life today. I perused the news headlines for today before starting to type and I see a world that could use a good dose of wisdom about now. We live in an hour of directionless individuals. All moving, but going no place. In a hurry, but without a proper compass. Having road rage, yet for what reason? I can almost in my mind’s eye see leaders of our country setting behind their desks with their face in their hands totally exhasberted because they are clueless to how to fix our nation’s problems. To all I simply say, it takes wisdom. And wisdom does not necessarily come from a round table discussion, but from God above. Kick Him out as we have done and we are left to our own devices. Look where that has brought us all too.

We have lost wisdom as a nation because we have lost the fear of the Lord. Here is how the wisest man who ever set foot on this planet described it. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding”(Proverbs 9:10 KJV) Interesting to me that Solomon stated by the Spirit of God that just having this ingredient in the life of an individual was only the beginning. Obviously it opens the door to other vital things that we need. As a believer I am more aware than ever before that this is something that must operate in and through my life on a daily basis. Decisions are made by us all that are so important. From a career move to how we handle finances, without the wisdom of God within us we have a tendency to simply follow the crowd. And having a mob mentality can prove quite destructive.

There are two types of wisdom. One is of this planet, the other outside the realm of human thoughts. Here is how James describes that which is of this atmosphere. One, he said that it was “earthly” meaning it was of the earth. Two, he stated it was “sensual” or simply “belonging to breath”. Thirdly, it is “devilish” meaning that it “resembles or proceeds from an evil spirit”. It does not take a degree in rocket science to look all around us and see this very thing playing out right before our eyes. Outside the realm of that which we can see with our natural eyes flows a wisdom which is first of all “pure” meaning that it is “certain”. It is “peaceable” or “bringing peace with it”. “gentle” or “fair”. “Easy to be intreated” or simply “compliant”. “full of mercy and good fruits” meaning, ”kindness and good will towards the miserable and afflicted, joined with a desire to help them”. “without partiality” which carries the idea of being “undistinguished” and finally, “without hypocrisy” meaning “sincere”.
Our nation is at a crisis level. When God leaves mankind to his own devices everything that man touches turns sour. I am not ready to wash my hands. I still have hope. Hope that we will come to our senses. Hope that someone will step forward and call us back as a nation to our roots. Perhaps it will be you and me. The body of Christ must shake itself from its lethargy. This can be our finest hour. This can be the hour to shine. This can be the moment in history when we turn the tide of this country back to Almighty God. Perhaps we can start with a good confession. Make it yours today. It has the wisdom of God contained within it!!!

Father, I thank you that the communication of my faith becomes effectual by acknowledging every good thing, which is in me in Christ Jesus. I hear the voice of the Good Shepherd. I hear my Father's voice, and the voice of a stranger I will not follow.
Father, I believe in my heart and say with my mouth that this day the will of God is done in my life. I walk in a manner worthy of You Lord, fully pleasing to You and desiring to please You in all things, bearing fruit in every good work. Jesus has been made unto me wisdom. I single-mindedly walk in that wisdom expecting to know what to do in every situation and to be on top of every circumstance!
I roll my works upon You, Lord, and You make my thoughts agreeable to Your will, and so my plans are established and succeed. You direct my steps and make them sure. I understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is for I am not vague, thoughtless, or foolish. I stand firm and mature in spiritual growth, convinced and fully assured in everything willed by God.
Father, You have destined and appointed me to come progressively to know Your will - that is to perceive, to recognize more strongly and clearly, and to become better and more intimately acquainted with Your will. I thank you, Father, for the Holy Spirit Who abides permanently in me and Who guides me into all the Truth - the whole, full Truth - and speaks whatever He hears from the Father and announces and declares to me the things that are to come. I have the mind of Christ and hold the thoughts, feelings, and purposes of His heart.
So, Father, I have entered into that blessed rest by adhering, trusting, and relying on You in the Name of Jesus. Hallelujah! Amen.
