Where Quitting Begins

Amy Winehouse did it. Jeret “Speedy” Peterson the Olympic speed skier did it. Millions do it on a daily basis. What? Give up in their minds. And it does not matter really what people are facing. Whether to commit suicide, walk away from a marriage, quit a job, decide to take someone’s life like the Norwegian killer or bomb a building like Timothy McVey, the mind is the battle field where decisions are won or lost on a daily basis. Before an individual ever decides to quit they do so in the mind.
Mankind is a triune being. That means we are three parts. We are spirit, soul and body. The Bible clearly states that fact. Paul, in writing to the believers in the city of Thessalonica states, “…your whole spirit soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV). It is the soul of man that consists of the mind, will and emotions. Therefore, when in my mind I come to any type of decision whether good or bad my entire body will then follow through because of the power of my thought processes.
I awaken thinking along this line because of a verse that was used in our midweek Bible study. The Amplified Version paints a far broader picture when it states, “And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude” (Ephesians 4:23). Read those words slowly to yourself. Let them sink in deep. The word “renewed” means to “restore or replenish”. Years ago I walked into the garage of a gentleman in Odessa, Texas and looked at some beautiful restored mustang automobile convertibles that did not come that way to his shop. When they first arrived they were nothing but a piece of junk discarded by society. But, to a man with a vision they were a paycheck. Constantly he was renewing those old rusted out bodies replacing them with quality goods until they were ready for delivery and in full working order for the customer. This is what Paul is referring to. Our minds are the battlefield. Constantly we are being bombarded with thoughts. Some are good, others are not. Flaming missiles from the enemy’s camp are being thrown our direction and his hope is that one will stick and perhaps we will act upon what he has planted there. It does get tiresome I assure you to constantly work to keep our thought in line with the word of God, but if we are going to succeed in this life then it all starts in the mind.
The Bible paints a picture of the various types of minds people possess. There is a “reprobate(unfit) mind” (Romans 1:28); a “fervent(excited) mind” (2 Corinthians 7:7); a “willing mind” (2 Corinthians 8:12); “a “ready(eager) mind” (2 Corinthians 8:19); a “fleshly mind”(Colossians 2:18); a “humble mind”(Colossians 3:12); and a “sound(self-controlled) mind”(2 Timothy 1:7).  Prior to the New Testament being written, moved upon by the Spirit of God, Solomon would pen words that have rung true down throughout history. He stated, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…”(Proverbs 23:7 KJV) That is in the mind region of the soul. It is there the battle is won or lost. And as a believer, before your feet ever hit the floor on a daily basis, the firey darts of hell have been pointed your and my direction to get us to become sidetracked in our thought processes. It is a war. My heart goes out to those who lose the battle. I have been there a time or two. But, we do not have to live in defeat anymore. Provision has been made for us to overcome.
Where is your mind today? Are you being plummeted by the forces of hell? Has the devil gotten you away from your peace? I leave you with the following prayer. Pray it often. Pray it daily. Pray it more than once a day if necessary. Let the words sink down into your soul. Let them renew you even as you read them outloud. “Father God, this day I release words of faith into the earth, spiritual seed that bring both a spiritual harvest, and a natural, physical manifestation into my life. I have no cares for I cast the whole of my cares over on Jesus, for He cares for me. I have no heavy burdens because I've taken Jesus' yoke which is easy and His burden which is light. I will not allow my soul to be cast down for I put my hope and trust in God. I am above only and not beneath. I am the head and not the tail. I'm blessed coming in and blessed going out. I am one spirit with God and I abide in Him always. I have the mind of Jesus Christ and the wisdom of God flows in me and through me. My body is the temple of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, for the fullness of God dwells in me. I tread upon serpents and scorpions and I exercise righteous authority over all the power of the enemy. Nothing shall by any means hurt me. I am skilled in the word of righteousness and I call things that be not as though they were. I will not fear what man or spirit can do unto me because no weapon formed against me shall prosper. Any tongue that rises against me in judgment shall be condemned. The blood of the Lord Jesus Christ covers my spirit, soul and body, and has sanctified me and separated me from the world, the flesh and the devil. I not only have my senses exercised to discern both good and evil, but I aggressively come against the kingdom of darkness and spoil every plot and scheme satan has waged against me and those around me. I am more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ. I take my shield of faith and quench satan's every fiery dart. I will not be distracted from doing the will of God, and I will not stray to the left hand or to the right. I have sound judgment and discretion and I refuse to be deceived by satan in any way. My mind is sharp and my spirit is keenly sensitive to disturbances in the spirit realm. I watch and pray and prevent evil from taking place because the Holy Spirit shows me things to come. I am equipped with spiritual armor and weaponry and I am never caught off guard by the wicked one in Jesus Name!!!!!!!!!!!
