Gallup's Amazing Poll

During the week of May 5-8, Gallup polled at random 1,018 American 18 years of age and older on these three questions, “The Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word. The Bible is the inspired word of God, but not everything in it should be taken literally. The Bible is an ancient book of fables, legends, history, and moral precepts”. When the polling was complete and their findings were complied 3 out of 10 Americans believe that the Bible is to be taken literal. 30%. Wow, that is amazing to me. I was not called, perhaps you were, but I can assure you that I am part of that 30% who believe in the literal interpretation of the word of God. If I can’t believe that God simply said “Let there be” and there was, why should I believe any other part of that ancient book? Perhaps then I should not believe that He loves me or died for me or can provide healing for me? As the old commercial use to ring out, “You’ve come a long ways Baby”, yes that it true but perhaps in the wrong way.
We have a generation that does not know the word of God or the power it possesses because we have a generation of minister’s behind pulpits who deliver weak, watered down, politically correct messages that are fine tuned to tickle ears, but never build faith. I saw this first hand while in the city of New Orleans in 2010. My wife and I were with some friends who were showing us several of the famous sites in the city. We walked through Jackson Circle and headed into a beautiful edifice of a church building that was of a different denomination than we were. But, I was curious and wanted to see inside. After walking through and then coming out on to the street once again my eyes caught what I honestly could not believe I was seeing. Lined up in front of that church building were perhaps 10 to 12 palm reading booths. My heart sank. In my spirit I knew that there was no power inside the building so the devil set up his group on the outside to provide a “form of religion”.
Over the past several months I have followed a certain website that puts out news from around our nation and the world of various things that are happening in the church. I have read articles that deal with whether tithing is still to be practiced. There were articles that discussed whether or not hell is real. Even those articles which gave both sides of the argument on same-sex marriages. Now, if you and I do not have to take the Bible literally perhaps you can discard some of those things a lot of us were raised with. But, let me shout it out loud, “I BELIEVE GOD’S WORD IS TRUE!” See, I believe in the tithing principle. Only one time in God’s word will you find the word “devourer”. It is found in the last book of the Old Testament. God told his prophet to tell his people when they released their tithe that the “devourer” would be rebuked. By the way, the word “devourer” means “to eat, consume, destroy”. Let me give you something literally. The wisest man to ever walk this planet wrote, “There are those who [generously] scatter abroad, and yet increase more; there are those who withhold more than is fitting or what is justly due, but it results only in want.”(Proverbs 11:24 Amplified Version) I also believe in a literal hell and I still believe that the word of God is very clear on a marriage between and man or a woman.
Generation after generation the Bible is tested and generation after generation it still stands. Whether or not all of society chooses to believe it or not does not matter, but a wise person can look around and see the results of a nation that does not believe in God’s word. Ours is no different. As a pastor I will continue to feed the sheep I am responsible for a steady diet of God’s word. I don’t want them malnourished. I don’t them sickly. I don’t want them anemic. I want them strong in their faith, strong in their confession and strong in their stand against a foe that desires to full them down. The pulpit I speak from will be one protected in order that nothing but truth will come forth from. Because this I know to be true, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away”(Matthew 24:35 KJV).
I challenge you today that if you are not in a church that believes in God’s word find yourself one. Your entire life depends on it. Without a proper diet of food from God’s word which is an inspired book, you will not be able to stand against the forces of darkness on your own. That I know for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
