A Valuable Lesson From A Dog

I love to quail hunt. I have hunted them in Arizona, and hunted them below the Caprock in West Texas. The ones in Arizona will run you to death and cause you to get pricked by cactus as you chase a covey of wild birds to shoot. Sorry all you animal lovers. But there is no greater meal than wrapping a piece of bacon around the body of a quail and baking it to perfection to then eat. My oh my that is good eating.
I walked down memory lane a day or so ago and thought of those times my dad would take we quail hunting near a small West Texas town named Quitaque. Located some 90 miles southwest of Amarillo my father had a man whom he was acquainted with who allowed us to hunt the quail on his property. On a Saturday we would drive the 90 plus miles and hunt for a awhile. One year in particular my father had met a gentleman that had a “bird-dog”. New to this experience, with our guns loaded off we went to bad us some quail. I still recall that day so vividly. Not more than five minutes into the hunt I noticed that the dog was acting strange. It was as though he froze in mid-air. His tail shot out. He was posed on three legs while the remaining one, up in the air, seemed to be pointing. Remember I had never seen one of these of dogs that I knew at the time was much smarter than I was. They were new to me and besides I was probably in the 10th or 11th grade of high school. So, wondering what was wrong with the dog and why it was acting like it was I walked upon it. Gun down at my side thinking the dog was in a stroke position as soon as I got new it a huge covey of quail immediately flew up into the air and off they went. I immediately was taught a very valuable lesson. When a “bird-dog” gets into a pointing position it is at that moment I better have my gun in the ready position if I am to bag my limit of quail for the day. Need-less to say I learned a lesson I will never forget. I recall the man taking his dog and going home because obviously this group he was with was too green for such a smart animal like his.(lol!)
The reason I recalled that experience was due to the fact I was reading Galatians 5:1 recently where the Apostle Paul told the believers in Galatia to “Stand fast…” or as I like to envision get into a pointer position and freeze. For a dog that has been trained to do such the work is nothing. It is bred within it. But, for you and me as a child of God sometimes it is way more difficult. There are distractions, disturbances, and devils that want to throw us off our game. I can still see that dog in my mind froze in his trained position. He had sniffed out the birds. He was sending a signal to us to get ready, prepare ourselves because what we were looking for was just up ahead.
As I end this week, which has been a tremendous week of receiving fresh revelation into my spirit man, I need that verse from Galatians. Perhaps you do as well. Perhaps the devil is fighting you over your finances trying to invoke fear into your heart and life. Stand fast! Perhaps it is your health you believe God for and through various forms of messaging the enemy of your and my soul screams at us that we will never walk again in health. Stand fast! Perhaps it is employment that you have prayed about, sought with tears for and no doors seem to be opening. Stand fast! Perhaps it is rebellious teenagers who break your heart and keep you awake at night praying for their salvation. Stand fast! Perhaps fear comes knocking at your door time and time again and you are wonder if you can handle anymore. Stand fast!!
I love what Paul wrote about Abraham in his writing in the book of Romans. He said, “No unbelief or distrust made him waver (doubtingly question) concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God, (Romans 4:20 Amplified Version) Do you see what caused Abraham to get into a pointer position and freeze? Praise and glory to God! So, join me. Don’t let friends, family or anyone get you out of your stance. Stand fast and through faith you and I will walk in victory. God’s word is true!!!!!!!!!!
