They were a group of men who travelled the land in the 80’s singing gospel music. Contemporary for their time they became popular for their sound and style. They really were outside the box for what a lot of people thought, yet they had some great music. One song in particular became a hit and has been sung by many an individual and group since then. The words stuck. They have lasted all these years because they are based on truth and truth always sticks around. The gentleman who sang the song has since been involved in many a group since then and has sung the song solo on many a gospel program. As you read the lyrics you will recognize them immediately. I wanted to share them with you in my blog today. Someone reading this may be struggling with things or facing a mountain standing in their pathway. We all do. But, the words of this song provide fuel to help us all press on. Read them slowly. Let them sink into your spirit man. They are anointed. They hold the answer to whatever we face at this present moment. Here they are: “When you're up against a struggle That shatters all your dreams And your hope's been cruelly crushed By Satan's manifested scheme And you feel the urge within you Tosubmit to earthly fears Don't let the faith your standing in Seem todisappear” The second verse is as follows: “Now Satan is a liar And he wants to make us think Thatwe are paupers When he knows himself We're children of the King So lift up the mighty shield of faith For the battle must be won We know that Jesus Christ is risen So the works already done”. The chorus then rings out: “Praise the Lord He can work through those who praise Him Praise the Lord For our God inhabits praise Praise the Lord For the chains that seem to bind you Serve only to remind you That they drop powerless behind you When you praise Him.”
Take your bible sometime today and read the 20th chapter of 2 Chronicles. There is a fascinating story of a battle that was won simply by singing and praise. In fact, if I read correctly it was not until the people began to sing and to praise that God then sent ambushments against their enemies. The 16th chapter of the book of Acts reveals the same. When Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises then God shook the prison that had held them bound. There is found then the principle to defeating the enemy that laughs in our face, mocks our walk with God, and does his best to trip us up. When everything seems to be against us, if we can simply turn our eyes off the circumstances and focus not on us but the power of God, then faith begins to rise.
Smith Wigglesworth was a powerful evangelist in his time. A plummer by trade, he had an encounter with God that forever changed his life. With only an 8th grade education he grew in such dynamic faith that God worked through that man with a powerful anointing. He once said, “when I get up in the morning I never ask myself how I feel”. Instead, he said, “the first ten minutes of the day are used to praise and magnify God, thanking the Lord for salvation and for the way he would be blessed that day”. Those results caused a simple, uneducated man to shake the kingdom of darkness for the glory of God.
Are you facing a mountain in your life? Are there hurdles you must cross? Have you heard the taunts and laughter of the enemy of your soul? Perhaps it is time for us to learn from pass generations. Praise worked for them. Praise, mixed with faith is a tag-tem that is unstoppable. They cannot be defeated. So, I challenge you this day to go back over the song form the past and let it’s words sink into your mind and heart. Then act upon those words. Do what they declare. Praise the Father, Praise the Son, Praise the Spirit the three in One and I assure you we will rock hell. So lift your voice, lift your hands, lift your spirit man, and praise no matter the circumstances. Things will change. They have to. Because the Father cannot hold back His blessings from faith-filled praising children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
