After reading conversation with God, i could not wait to get the women’s version. Though you can tell it is a different author it is the same premise as Conversation with God and delves into different questions and aspects of God and Jesus, who they are and their character. Still enjoy the format of asking a question and then God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit or a woman from the Bible answer the question ~ I think of it as “talk show” format. It allows you to get a perspective from the Old Testament (God), New Testament (Jesus) and perhaps a view from another biblical person or two. Many questions are addressed in other books of a theological nature, but I enjoyed they simple way this says the same answers almost as if hearing it a bit differently sets off a light bulb in the brain.
I have not read a book by Marcia Ford before, but I am adding her to my favorite authors list. This book was SO great! I have to admit, I was a bit nervous about the title. Anytime assumes the voice of God there must be caution when approaching. From the first chapter all my nervousness faded away. For takes Bible verses, complete with references and strings them together into a very understandable and solid statement. Each paragraph is peppered with Biblical truth presented in a loving, raw yet tender way. My favorite chapter was the discussion on women submitting to men. In a few pages Ford was able to summarize what I have read in countless books and heard in several sermons. Even though each question is answered in a few pages I did not feel that the answers were incomplete. There are some questions we will never know the answers to, and yet Ford does an amazing job of answering those questions that CAN be answered with balance. Written as if each Biblical figure is speaking to the reader, this book draws one in and keeps them there. I think that each reader will see God and Jesus as open and loving figures who earnestly desire the reader to have a deep and correct understanding of the Bible and relationship with them. Another thing I really liked about this book is how broad the subjects discussed are. There doesn't seem to be a question that was shied away from and yet each is answered very thoroughly. Because of the way each question is answered I found myself pausing after a chapter and trying to reflect on it. There would be excellent discussion that could develop from this book for small group study.
