The Power of Thoughts

Like produces like. Apple trees produce apples. Lemon trees produce lemons. Dogs produce dogs, cats likewise. Amazingly in all my years of living I have never seen any of these get it wrong. It is part of the DNA. Those silly newspapers at grocery store checkouts can post all kinds of weird pictures declaring they have found the opposite in some far off jungle on a foreign continent, but you and I know it just isn’t so. When God brought the world and it’s creatures into existence by the words of His mouth, He knew that from that time on, like would produce like.

I thought of that when the young lady talking to my wife and me recently said that she was not a very affectionate person. Prior to that she told us her mother was not very affectionate at all. Like producing like. It is obvious that in the animal kingdom what a creature is, that is what a creature will produce. But, in the realm on the human, I am convinced that is not the case. Let me see if I can explain.

As a human being I have the capacity of producing another human being. God gave us that ability. My parents produced me. But, produced with all their limitations. Now, do not jump to any conclusions yet. I do not blame my parents for anything that has ever happened to me, or anything that I participated in. I take full responsibilities for my short-comings, my hang-ups, my faults and failures. Yet, and this is what I want you to fully and completely understand. My past does not dictate my future. Nor will I allow my past to define my future

There is an awesome proverb written by King Solomon that is mind boggling to me. Here is how the Holy Spirit had him write the words. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:…”(Proverbs 23:7 KJV). That verse is powerful to me. My destiny is tied to my thought processes. Powerful isn’t it? Yet, absolutely true. This is why I do not enjoy being around negative talking people. They depress me. Their thoughts attack my spirit man. They can, if I allow them to, affect my life in a wrong way.

I am not writing about something that comes easy to me. I have to fight to stay on top. To be up-beat. But, like you as a believer I am in a training arena. My life on a daily basis is being molded into the type person I am destined to me, by the thoughts that are in my heart. Funny isn’t it that God said that we think with our hearts and not our brains. The heart is the engine of the human life. It beats 100,000 times a day, 36,000,000 times a year. Imagine what could transpire within every human being on this planet if we all begin to think with the heart God thoughts. How powerful a force we would be. Nothing could stop us. No enemy could defeat us.

Do you recall the people in the Old Testament who decided to build a tower that would reach into the heavens? We call it the Tower of Babel because God caused languages to be dispersed all over the world at that time. But, there is a statement, penned by Moses as he wrote the book of Genesis that shows me just how powerful our thought life can be. Here is how the verse reads, “And the Lord said, behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do”. (Genesis 11:6 KJV). The word “imagined” means, “to fix thought upon”. Do you see the picture? Like producing like. Obviously it was humanism which they were dwelling on in their thought processes, not God thoughts, yet the principle is still the same. There is a powerful force that lies within everyone one of us that can, by our thoughts becoming the thoughts of God, can influence and change things around us, not only by thinking, but also by speaking forth that which our heart is dwelling upon.

Here is where my heart has been taking me recently. I will not be intimated by the enemy of my soul. I will not allow others dictate my future. I will not live in lack. I will not accept defeat in my life. I will not be afraid. I will not give in to economic conditions around me. I will not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. And I will not permit my past to determine my future. My thoughts are becoming the thoughts of the Father. And if He is for me…well you know the rest!!!!!!
