Suspended 40 feet above the ground, Charles Young, a pastor from Bayside Community Church in Manatee County Florida, plans to spend 15 hours a day for the next five days in a six foot by three foot bucket, armed with a sign asking people to donate backpacks for children in low income families.
He is a man on a mission. His target is to collect 1,000 backpacks that will be given to children in local public schools. Up in the bucket, the 30-year-old pastor has room only for a folding chair and an umbrella to protect him from the August heat. Even worse for Young, he is afraid of heights.
“I thought stepping out of my comfort zone might help others step out of theirs and donate to the community,” he said.
I think deep inside all of us is this sense that we have been put here on this earth to do something. Something special. Something significant. Something which makes a difference in the lives of others and something which will continue long after we have gone.
