Letters to Jesus (Unhelpful Mindsets and Attitudes)-5
It is within the power of everyone to conquer permanently this world to a degree far surpassing Alexander, Caesar and Napoleon combined. Ultimately their conquests, while not forgotten, were temporal and fleeting. Their conquests were exterior and therefore highly visible. Their conquests were based on force, fear and subjugation. Their conquests could not be sustained because the spirit of man which comes from within and surpasses force, fear and subjugation is eternal. Wherever Alexander, Caesar and Napoleon are now, their conquests amount to zero and might be considered time poorly spent in their lives. For them “self” reigned supreme.
To the vast numbers of unrecognized “nobodies” who struggle with conquering only themselves in a silent unobtrusive way, to them and to them alone belongs the title of conqueror of the world and that victory, while not in the history books, is written in eternity and thus is the greater one.
To make others participate in one’s own egotistical delusions of grandeur is to take to the ultimate level of disaster that feeling of wanting others to feel or think as you do. In the cosmic schema of things this would not seem to be the proper business of man. Conquering one’s self is!
Since the race of man has fallen there is nothing left to do but find our way back to You. Every deviation to find something else in this life is an extension of that original fall. If once, at our inception, we were found, now we are lost. And we continue to be lost as long as the things we choose to conquer and reign over are other than ourselves.
