One them of the book of Galatian is that believed Paul about the grace of God in Christ for us and later they simply wanted to go back and add something to it! And Paul bewildered said and stated his frustration as not knowing what to do next, Galatian 4:12-20,
["...12Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.
13Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.
14And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
15Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
16Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
17They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.
18But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
19My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
20I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you...]
Now Paul is asking them at Galatia, what happened to faith and the message he had brought them about Jesus. Suddenly they did not recieve or believe him as an apostle of God and namely Christ. They could of given him their life at first but then the hoop-la ended and they had misgiving about the message of Paul, serving Christ. And Paul in his Zeal had not understood that God had put a limitation on the understanding about the truth of what the Cross and Grace entails! They wanted to finish with the law, what they had started to believe in the spirit concievable, hopefully!...
And we have this sydrome today where some want to add to the Cross of Jesus. A little more spice to the bread! A little more ritual! A little requierement here and some there! Perhaps focus on some truth than more than others. And it becomes a club of some where you need something to qualify in this social club. And sometimes this club is a social club where the rules of ethics are the ettiquette of society and not what the bible says about sin. And since we have different social clubs, then we have different churches where the gospels change and vary from town to town and from street to street...
And what does the bible really demans of anyone who aspires Christ, Acts 15:22-29, the apostle sent a letter that outlines the gospel message,
["... 22Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
23And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.
24Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
25It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
28For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
29That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well...]
And this is the basic message the apostles sent throught the region, what little in anything God required for salvation. And like we've said there were some then who thought that the gosple message was too bland and needed more of something to save someone...
