Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

 

Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.  Hosea 4:1-3

Dr. Vogelbein said: "It's always the big question, 'are the fish safe to eat?' I think common sense should be used. People who fish know what a healthy fish looks like. "Those are safe to eat. But a fish which has ulcers on it [such as a lack of scales and blood on the skin] should not be." ... But he said the die-off was concerning as it shed light on a variety of environmental factors, as well an infection, that appeared to be causing the die-off. ... He said there seemed to be environmental factors leading to the death of the fish but added: "Some of the fish are showing skin ulcers and some of the fish are also showing signs of infections in their gills. "There appears to be an organism playing a role. We have been able to isolate some bacterial organism." Dr. Vogelbein also said that a weakened immune system due to high water temperatures could be causing fish to react negatively to bacteria regularly found in the ocean....

Plastic elastic and other confessions
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean floats a mass of plastic waste twice the size of Texas. Acres of bobbing bottles, bags and Barbie shoes, it's where plastic trash comes to rest in the ocean. Actually, it doesn't rest. Despite what we've heard -- that plastic lasts a thousand years -- it doesn't. A recent study reveals that plastic breaks down a lot faster than that, but into toxic elements. To what end, nobody yet knows. Long before it's trash, however, plastic leaches toxins into our bodies (a premise strongly objected to by the FDA and the plastics industry), and nobody knows the long-term consequences of that, either...

 

Look what we as a human race have done to this planet called earth! “To what end, nobody yet knows” God knows, and He knows the exact number of deaths in either fish or humans that will come from just this one filthy human sickness of polluting and destroying everything. Close your eyes and just vision God’s creation of the beautiful Pacific ocean at sunset . . .then picture within it a floating junk yard twice the size of Texas. O Lord God, have mercy on us all for our own blind ignorance because whats on top is only half because the rest is on the bottom releasing ever know sickly toxin known to man into the fish that he catches to eat.

Dangerous Staph Germs Found at West Coast Beaches
Dangerous staph bacteria have been found in sand and water for the first time at five public beaches along the coast of Washington, and scientists think the state is not the only one with this problem. The germ is MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -- a hard-to-treat bug once rarely seen outside of hospitals but that increasingly is spreading in ordinary community settings such as schools, locker rooms and gyms. The germ causes nasty skin infections as well as pneumonia and other life-threatening problems. It spreads mostly through human contact. Little is known about environmental sources that also may harbor the germ.... In the new study, researchers tested 10 beaches in Washington along the West Coast and in Puget Sound from February to September 2008. Staph bacteria were found at nine of them, including five with MRSA. The strains resembled the highly resistant ones usually seen in hospitals, rather than the milder strains acquired in community settings, Roberts said.... "Make sure you get all the sand off," and cover any open cuts or scrapes before playing in the sand, Roberts added. ...

Herring season canceled
State wildlife regulators canceled the San Francisco Bay herring fishing season for the first time Thursday, hoping to rebuild a population that has plunged dangerously low.... The drop is blamed on environmental factors, not on overfishing. But John Mello, a senior biologist with the state Department of Fish and Game, said the herring population has now "reached a point where any fishing mortality inhibits the rebuilding of the stock." Fishers are primarily interested in herring roe [eggs], which is prized as a delicacy in Japan. Herring are also an important part of the food chain, supporting birds, larger fish and marine mammals. ...

As it turns out, farmed salmon comes with its own set of environmental and health issues -- threatening wild salmon populations, becoming harbingers of disease, and contaminating the oceans with antibiotics and toxic chemicals. And if you're eating salmon in the U.S., the chances are very good that it's farm raised. Only about 10 percent of salmon on the market in the U.S. is actually wild these days Alex Trent, executive director of the industry group Salmon of the Americas, told the New York Times.... While salmon "farming" conjures an agrarian image, the industry is more akin to CAFOs -- the concentrated animal feeding operations -- used by the industrial meat industry that is responsible for most of the chicken, burgers and pork that Americans consume. They're also responsible for a lot of waste and pollution that comes with raising a whole bunch of creatures in a confined space. ...

Scientists have just completed an unprecedented journey into the vast and little-explored "Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch." On the Scripps Environmental Accumulation of Plastic Expedition (SEAPLEX), researchers got the first detailed view of plastic debris floating in a remote ocean region.... Team members began 24-hour sampling periods using a variety of tow nets to collect debris at several ocean depths. "We targeted the highest plastic-containing areas so we could begin to understand the scope of the problem," said Miriam Goldstein of SIO, chief scientist of the expedition. "We also studied everything from phytoplankton to zooplankton to small midwater fish."... "Finding so much plastic there was shocking," said Goldstein. "How could there be this much plastic floating in a random patch of ocean--a thousand miles from land?" ...

An analysis of more than 100 scientific studies conducted on atrazine, one of the world's most common and controversial weed killers, reveals the chemical's consistent ill effects on the development, behavior, immune, hormone and reproductive systems of amphibians and freshwater fish, USF researchers have concluded in a new study.... [T]he body of scientific research on the chemical shows that while atrazine typically does not directly kill amphibians and fish, there is consistent scientific evidence that it is negatively impacting their biology. The authors conclude that these non-lethal effects must be weighed against the benefit of using the weed killer.... "The weight-of-evidence, however, suggests that atrazine regularly causes reproductive abnormalities and is an endocrine disruptor." ...

The sad little hoki fish inside your Filet-O-Fish sandwich

Though millions of you eat fish sticks, Filet-o-Fish sandwiches, and sushi made of this fish every month, it's a good bet you wouldn't be able to pick the hoki out of a creature-of-the-deep lineup; it's an even better bet you've never heard of the hoki, also known as the blue grenadier. So of course you don't know that the 200 million pounds of hoki -- about 50 million of the ugly little critters -- are at the center of a debate about sustainable fishery practices, a debate that illuminates the larger issue about what, exactly, makes an environmentally friendly fishery, and whether any fish can bear the enormous weight of our hunger.

You probably thought your fish sticks and fish sandwiches were made of cod, a whitefish that has had its ups and downs with sustainability (in 2006, for instance, scientists called for a complete ban on Atlantic cod fishing; but that same year, a "green" fishery off the coast of Alaska was granted a sustainability seal from the Marine Stewardship Council). Some of it still is, along with pollock and several other less well-known fish. According to Lisa McComb of McDonald's (MCD), of the approximately 100 million pounds of white fish the fast food chain makes into sandwiches each year, about 15 million is hoki. Gary Johnson told The New York Times recently that the quantity was dropping; to about 11 million pounds, 11 percent of the company's total fish purchasing.

 

McDonald's has strict sustainability standards for all its fish; according to McComb, the three characteristics of flavor profile, quality, and sustainability are always the most important factors when deciding to purchase a type of fish, and they even trump price; so the decline in purchasing doesn't necessarily mean the company doubts its sustainability. At Yum! Brands' (YUM) Long John Silvers, hoki has been taken off the menu -- but a spokesperson didn't say why (though the company has previously described its purchase of New Zealand hoki in glowing terms).

So should McDonald's use hoki -- and should any restaurant or frozen food manufacturer buy the fish? The tone of the New York Times piece seems to suggest that hoki, especially that caught off the shores of New Zealand, is a less sustainable choice. Certainly, the World Wildlife Fund agrees. Australia WWF fisheries program manager Peter Trott told the New York Times that ecosystem damage, population declines, and the accidental killing of other marine creatures -- skates, sharks and seals -- is untenable. "We have major concerns" about the sustainability of New Zealand hoki fishing.

Despite his concerns and the falling fish stocks, the Marine Stewardship Council renewed its sustainability certification for New Zealand hoki in 2007 (certifications last five years). New Zealand has responded, fearful of repeating the disastrous fate of the orange roughy (which once made up a large proportion of commercial white fish), reducing the annual quota from 275,000 metric tons in 1996 to about 100,000 today. In other areas of the world, especially Chile and Argentina, hoki quotas are declining too; in the first half of 2009, the Argentinian hoki catch was down 26 percent (about 25,000 metrics tons in the first four months of the year).

And of the 100,000 tons of hoki caught in New Zealand, only 29 percent is exported, much of it to China, where it's processed into fish sticks and fish filets for us to eat in the U.S. and Western Europe. In all probability, this fish is combined with hoki and hake from Argentina and Chile, and cod and pollack from Alaska, not to mention the Patagonian toothfish, another species for which international quotas are being set.

The facts are confusing and often disputed, and the truth is that no one fish can be seen as a sustainability darling. Because if it is? It's surely bound toward overuse. The international fishery industry operates in a constant state of balance and rebalance, with a vast number of governmental agencies, environmental watchdogs, wildlife groups, consumer advocates, and corporate interests pushing and pulling to find the right way to harvest natural resources without destroying them altogether; all in the face of rising ocean temperatures that are throwing the whole delicate structure into chaos.

It's a house of cards, and just as there is no one perfect fish there is no one perfect corporate consumer. McDonald's and Yum! Brands could be seen as equally culpable; or equally admirable, depending on the fish we're focusing in on today. The hoki might be ugly, but it's this week's fashion plate. Whether it will be next week's, or next year's, very much depends on factors entirely beyond all of our control.

Should hoki be used in Filet-o-Fish sandwiches? Yes. And no. And I don't know? McDonald's sustainability objectives look as admirable as they can be, given the circumstances. For once, I have to applaud the fast food company on its initiatives.

Jeff, you quoted from Hosea and Zephaniah , but I browsed the whole Book of Hosea and Zephaniah but I saw hope , restoration , for example please read chapter 14 of Hosea and Zephaniah 3:13 and 3:20.

. . . are only what Satan allows you to see. Those words are prophecy for the restoration of a fallen people. God is love that through His words of truth that few believe or understand because of all who go to churches to be fed only the doctrines and traditions of man rather that the truth of God for THY WORD IS TRUTH. . . .yet man has just twisted God's truth into their own truth. All through scripture God warns. . .yet almost no one chooses God over man when it comes to truth. Because God is love the only way that He can teach a rebellious man kind is via punishment. In other words you don't believe me because I am different; different as in not of this world. God is not of this world, therefore all belive Satan who is the god of this world. What I am trying to do is tell you what it has taken God eighteen years to make clear to me. . . .and most won't hear because most all are as scorpions. So says God Almighty. I can only relay His truth with genuine care for you. . . .and only God can water the seed by drawing you. John 6:44. And it is your heart and its intent that assist God in His decision. Do a study on the word heart or a form of the word and you will have about 996 verses to read and meditate on. Zephaniah 3:13, 20 are the same as in prophecy. What all need to do is see life now while doing self examination as many times a day as needed while also praying to God for Him to show you how He sees you. Take some thought to these following words.

I am tired and very discouraged with all life’s problems while being surrounded with scorpions that convince their own minds that all is well while forgetting that nothing is ever hidden from God because He is always watching hearts and knows their intent that fully ignores the new commandment in John 13:34 from Jesus Christ Himself. And God has made me a witness to just how badly all saints have not the love of Christ, and that is why God puts no trust in His saints. [Job 15:15] No love means no fruits which means you become as nothing.

 

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh.

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord.

 

Who is God talking to here? Ghostbusters?  Our author of eternal salvation is talking to all the Rapture saints that He puts no trust in because there is no rapture along with no obedience to His truths written in the Holy Bible.

Jeff, you seem to be focused on the negative. If I get you correctly, you seem to believe that God has no more people or followers or ministers after the days of Peter, Paul, and John. God is still at work through many churches today.
