Growing up, my father instilled in me the importance of having the right tools for the job, and knowing how to use them. David could have gone to battle with a sword and a spear, but they wouldn't have been as effective. David knew what he needed to do, and he knew how to get the job done. A sling, a stone and the LORD was all he needed.
1st Samuel 17:40
Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.
A tool is only effective if we know how to use it. Many people try to use the sword of the Spirit, only to find out they don't have a clue of how to use it. They may swing it around a few times, but all they wind up doing is moving the air around. Spend time in the Word of God. Read it, study it, and learn how to use it.
