West African City Public Lighting Management Training Course
More than 15 lighting professionals from West Africa on behalf of seven cities participated in the “West African Urban Public Lighting Strategy and Management” training course (West African Economic and Monetary Union) organized by Lyon Metropolis, LUCI, and Ouagadougou in cooperation with UEMOA. Senghor University, July 3-6, 2018 in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).
This type of training course aims to provide participants with a horizontal perspective on urban development through public lighting(CLASSIC) (involving technical and political aspects) and explains how a planned integrated urban lighting strategy can provide sustainable solutions for cities.
Representatives from the city of Lyon, LUCI and Alexander Senghor introduced the theoretical aspects and tools of public lighting management and then explained the specific experience of participating city representatives.
Capacity building through peer-to-peer communication
The training focuses on providing a concrete and practical vision for a public lighting strategy: Abidjan (Ivory Coast) showcases its public lighting strategy “Abidjan, the Pearl of Light” and its plans to develop light festivals in the coming years. And Mali focuses on its organizational framework and intelligent lighting experience.
