Our Lord Jesus told us pretty clearly, be perfect. St Matthew at least thought Jesus said this, although when St Luke seems to have told about the same event, he reported the words Be merciful. I suppose Jesus might have made both teachings, on different days or even on the same day. Each of them seem to be parallel to the Old Testament instruction: Be Holy, as God is Holy.
I suggest that each of us should really be trying hard to be the best we can: to be good, to educate ourselves, to find the best mentors and models we can, and to follow the virtues. Probably we've all heard or read that we should view ourselves as temples of the Holy Spirit. St John said if we were Believers, and I presume baptized, Jesus would reside in us, and God in Jesus. I think this helps explain the Trinity.
So, what are the steps toward improving? Prayer, I think, is the first and best: to praise and thank the Trinity for His Creation; and for our incredible world of opportunity and beauty; for our families, friends and neighbors; for our lives and our many Blessings. Second is to share God's Love for us with all those around us, good days and bad. Sharing includes not just smiles and greetings, of course, but also some of our treasure.
Third is getting to Church, and worship, and learning more about Holy Scripture. That's enough to keep us busy for awhile. Can we do it?
