I don’t watch much news on television … mainly because I don’t trust it to be accurate. This week, I caught what was going on in our federal government and several verses from the bible came to mind.
In the bible, Proverbs 4: 25-27 says,
“Let your eyes look straight ahead;fix your gaze directly before you.Give careful thought to thepaths for your feetand be steadfast in all your ways.Do not turn to the right or the left;keep your foot from evil.”
What these verses are saying is to not stray from what you believe after you have thoughtfully formed your opinion.Don’t let peer pressure, fads, trends or any outside opinion let you stray from your conviction. If you set what you believe on a solid foundation, there is no good reason to stray from it.
And Proverbs 19:1 says,
“Better to be poor and honestthan be a rich person no one can trust.”
This is about deceitfulness and outright lying which causes a person to be disrespected and not to be trusted.
In Matthew 5:37, Jesus says,
“Let your yes be yes and your no be no, anything beyond this is evil.”
In other words, say what you mean …. If you make a promise, keep it.If you can’t do something or support something for someone say so and don't engage in grandstanding over it.
And my favorite … Psalm 58:1-2 in the Message version of the bible says,
“Is this any way to run a country? Is there an honest politician in the house? Behind the scenes you brew cauldrons of evil, behind closed doors you make deals with demons.”
Obvious, King David saw our current government in his own.
