Because our activities are controlled by “time” we tend to think in the short-term.
introduction: Time—all time—is just an indistinguishable dot on the timeline of eternity (the phrase "timeline of eternity" is an oxymoron). God is beyond the constraints of time in both eternity-past and eternity-future. In this short series we will look at four critical aspects of this reality.
Time Is Very Short ~ “This I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away” (1 Corinthians 7:29-31). “The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17).
God Is Beyond Time ~ “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. You turn man to destruction, and say, ‘Return, O children of men.’ For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night” (Psalm 90:2-4). “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise,be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen” (1 Timothy 1:17).
concluding thought: Are you sacrificing the eternal on the altar of the immediate?
