This phrase is one of the hard phrases in the Bible for me to comprehend.I believe this came from the story of King Saul the first king of Israel. Perhaps I will meditate on this more.
Let us consider another aspect of man. Have you consider the heroes in life ,in sports, in business, in love? Passionate people use everything in their power to achieve something they desire dearly. Passionate people sacrificed everything even their lives. When does this happen? when they realize it is all worth it, is it not? And the same token people back off when they see it is not worth their time, effort, or life.
Let us consider the Lord Jesus Christ. He knew He will be sacrificed at the cross for our sins. He knew that God the Father will answer His prayer had He decided not to die on the cross. But Jesus knew that had He decided to save Himself, mankind will be lost, no one will be saved.
Finally Jesus decided to follow God's will and God's will is for Him to be the sacrifice for our sins. God's will for us is to believe in His Son. We could do everything we know to save ourselves or even sacrifice ourselves but God said for us to go to Him through JesusChrist. The best for us is to obey God, and to obey God is to believe in Jesus. Sacrifice without believing in Jesus does not work. It is written, there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved . (Acts 4:12).
Once we believe in Jesus, sacrifice comes next for us not to be a dead sacrifice but a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1,2).
If this is not clear, please consider that Jesus Christloved or loves us so much to give everything He got, His life , His blood while obeying God the Father, and also being the sacrifice Himself.
Now the most important questions for us. Is Jesus worth following ? Is Jesus worthy to be our Lord and Savior ?Are we worth something ?
The bloody, rugged, now empty cross and empty grave say it all.
