Scripture clearly defines marriage as between one man and one woman – Genesis 2:24. Anything else is described as an “abomination” in the eyes of God – Romans 1:18-32. For thousands of years mankind – civilized and uncivilized – has thus defined marriage. Those of us who believe the Bible and follow Christ are not going to change our definition of marriage.
It is a shame that the courts have taken over society and now here in our state of Florida are forcing the legalization of so-called “gay marriage.” The legislative and executive branches of government should have stood up to the judicial branch of government many years ago. It has not always been this way. When the U.S. Supreme Court made a decision with which President Andrew Jackson did not agree, Jackson said – speaking of Chief Justice John Marshall, “John Marshall has made his decision. Now let him enforce it.” The U.S. government never had to capitulate totally to the courts. But it has in recent years.
Now the courts have over-turned not only millennia of common law, but they have over-ruled a ballot initiative approved by nearly 62% of Florida voters in 2008.
The Bible tells us that unbiblical lifestyles are shameful – Romans 1:26-27.
Those of us who believe the Bible are often accused of “hate speech.” No, we do not hate homosexuals. We do not hate sinners. We all qualify as sinners. We love sinners, and we love homosexuals. Yes, homosexuals are welcome at our church. All sinners are welcome at our church. That is why we are welcome. We all qualify as sinners. And we all are welcome.
But we do not have to condone any particular sin or unbiblical lifestyle. Redefinition of marriage has the potential for unforeseen consequences. It is not good for society. God deliver us from such unbiblical responses to life. And the news media does not do us a favor by promoting this court decision like it is a victory for all. It is a disappointment.
Many of us will continue to stand for truth. And if that doesn’t work, we will continue to stand. “And having done all…stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)
