Sometimes I like to call on an old prayer book when I am craving some comfort. Sometimes I look in the pantry to find a snack when all I really need is to talk to God and feel His grace and peace in a busy day. If you are a parent please enjoy this beautiful prayer from a prayer book called Beneath the Cross; this book was given to me by my mother in law who now resides in heaven.
Parent's Prayer for Themselves
O Father of mankind, Who hast given unto me these my children, and committed them to my charge to bring them up for thee, and to prepare them for everlasing life: assist me with Thy heavenly grace, that I may be able to fulfill this sacred duty and stewardship. Teach me both what to give and what to withhold; when to reprove and when to forbear; make me to be gentle, yet firm; considerate and watchful; and deliver me equally from the weakness of indulgence, and the excess of severity; and grant that, both by word and example, I may be careful to lead them in the way of wisdom and true piety, so that at last I may, with them, be admitted to the unspeakable joys of our true home in heaven, in the company of the blessed angles and saints. (Beneath the Cross, Our Lady's Children in Maryland, Marysville, Maryland, 1990)
May this prayer give you peace as you walk daily with your children. Saying yes to God's calling and raising and caring for His souls on earth is an awesome responsibility and joy. When times get tough call on God in all things, when times are great and fun and happy thank God in front of your children. Being a living example of your faith so that your children can also follow in your faith and love for God is a gift you will give them that is more prescious than gold. You will give them a gift of eternal life with God, true peace, love, and joy for all eternity!
