Colossians 3:12-14

"So, chosen by God for this new life of love,

dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you:

compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline.

"Be even-tempered, content with second place,

quick to forgive an offense.

Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you.

And regardless of what else you put on, wear love.

It’s your basic, all-purpose garment."

Never be without it."

Colossians 3:12-14 MSG

When God chooses us He changes our entire being.  He clothes us with a garment that allows His Spirit to shine through in all that we do.  As Christians we all have at least one gift given us by God to build His kingdom.  However, all of us possess the qualities mentioned in Colossians 3.  It is up to us if we allow those qualities to fill our lives and spill over onto those with whom we come into contact.

As important as all of these qualities are, there is one that stands by itself.  We are to wear love.  Not love as the world defines it, but love as portrayed in God's word.  This is the love that led Him to send His Son to die for me.  This is the love that carried Jesus to the cross where He took my sins upon Himself and paid the price I owed.  This is the love that walks through valleys of sorrow and rejoices on the mountaintop with me.  And this is the love that through His grace God allows me to share with others.

When I became God's child I received this same love as a gift.  The question then becomes do I hoard this gift for myself or do I open my life so that this love splashes like a refreshing fountain onto a thirsty world?  My hope is that everyday I choose to wear love.
