We have put ourselves back into bondage if we are believing, receiving and living with a law-based mentality. This mindset will keep us from seeing the Simplicity of the Cross and the Finished Work of Christ.
Paul was an apostle, not sent from men, or an agency of man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father.
Paul said the gospel he preached was not according to man but through a revelation of Jesus Christ. Keep this in mind as you read how he was coming against the Galatians for quickly deserting Him who had called them to a different gospel other then the Grace of Christ. Have we made it something it's not? For many, many years?...Are we trying to please man.. Have we had a revelation of Jesus Christ?..or is it in law-keeping(churchly ways) that we justify ourselves?..Have we done what the Galatia Church did? Food for Thought ~selah
Galatians 3, 4, and 5 says it all. Give it a Look-see.
Galatians 3: 2 Paul asks... This is the only thing I want to find out from you; did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by the hearing with faith? 3: Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
Galatians 3:23 but before faith came we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was
later to be revealed. 24: Therefore, the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. 25: But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor,(law) for you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of God came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
5: so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we may receive the adoption as sons 6: Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts crying Abba! Father! 7: Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. 9: But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemetal things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again. 10: You observe days and months and seasons and years...And in 11: Paul says He fears he has labored over them in vain!
The two women spoken of in Chapter 4:21-31 are representing two covenants. Abraham had two sons, one by the bondwoman, and one by the free woman. The son by the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, the son by the free woman, through the promise. Which we now are. (New Covenant). Paul quotes in verse 28"And you brethren, like Issac, are children of promise. Verse 29 states that he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also"... Verse 30 says we are to cast out the bondwoman and her son. For the son of the bondwoman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman.
The bondwoman represents living under the law in slavery(bound by laws)...This is Old Covenant, where sacrifices
continually had to be made. We now have a once and for all time offering..JESUS...Hebrews 10:10. Hebrews 8:13 says "When He said new covenant, He has made the first obsolete."
In Chapter 5 Verse 1, Paul says "It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." Verse 4 says "You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace."
So ..kick out Hagar...we are no longer a slave..but a son...be free IN Christ. No longer under Law (tryin to make yourself good enough by works of flesh)... but by the Spirit of Grace.....Christ Alone.
