My friends, it is critical for us to remember that we are all on a journey of discovery. We are all at different places in our understanding of scripture, and that is never a license to be condescending, condemning, or downright rude to one another.
If I feel that I have an understanding that you lack, it's my responsibility to share the truth with you in love, not to beat you over the head and pretend that I was born believing the way I do now. I've learned like everyone else-that is, through prayer, and study. I've had my paradigms shifted, and my programming challenged. I have not resisted those who've disagreed, and who've called me out, but have embraced their criticisms as the Lord's way of perfecting my understanding. Sometimes it works to perfect it in that it solidifies my resolve, and other times it shatters my theology to bits, forcing me to rethink all that I thought I knew.
Had I done the 'knee jerk' thing, and labeled all who thought differently from me as being heretics heralding dangerous doctrines, I would still be sucking my thumb in the spiritual nursery.
It's time that we embraced one another despite doctrinal disagreements, knowing that none of us have it all figured out, and that we are fully dependent upon one another.
Let us shed our defensive attitudes, and holster our spiritual side arms, realizing that we are not at war with one another, but in school with one another. :) > Jeff Turner
