I believe our Christian walk starts when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Prior to this we have developed bad habits, wrong beliefs that we thought are right. Even before being a Christian we have adhered to the notion that we earn our way to heaven by doing good works but the Bible says heaven is a gift through faith in Jesus Christ.
What I also noticed is we misunderstood faith , some believe we do not have to do anything, some says faith plus works still trying to attach works to salvation. Let us try if we can clarify this.
Salvation is a free gift through faith in Jesus Christ the Bible says. Paul said we are saved by faith and not by works. James says faith without works is dead. Seems contradictory , is it not ?
Here is how i understand it, we come to Jesus just as we are, sinner and all, not bringing anything worthy except our repentance to be saved. This is what I believe Paul was talking about. What James was talking about is after we make our confession to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is that we grow and not remain a baby. Paul was talking about before salvation and James about after salvation or our Christian walk.
Now comes our Christian walk , and this is where another misunderstanding comes. We thought we can live our walk by our own means or by our own effort. God as written in the Bible sends and gives us the Holy Spirit to help us along the way. From observation people me included fail to ask help from the Holy Spirit. And here is where I will conclude this blog. God wants us to reach the finish line that is we go to maturity and not to be discouraged, defeated, tired, disillusioned. That is why Jesus said it is expedient that He goes away (go back to heaven). That is with a body Jesus He is limited but with the Holy Spirit God can and will and is dwelling in us.
Once we know that the Holy Spirit is helping us , we will be amazed at how God works in our life.
