Proverbs 8 Scripture Study: Wisdom's Part in Creation

Wisdom. Such a small word with a great meaning. When you are starting high school you need wisdom to make new friends, survive the year as the "new guy in town," and acquaint yourself with the completely different atmosphere of high school. You will have continual challenges as you move out into life and into your adult life. You will need not only the wisdom that your parents and teachers are trying to instill; you also need wisdom and guidance gained from God's word. Become accustomed to learning from your elders in all walks of life and that attitude will carry you far and help you to earn great respect.

In The Beginning (Proverbs 8:22-25)

In these verses we are told that our creator God had wisdom before creating the earth. If an almighty God who has the power to create the earth and all that is in it uses wisdom before he begins to create, shouldn't we also strive for the wisdom needed to handle our days in his creation. Because we are created in God's image we are to strive for the perfection that God's image entails.

Is it possible for us, as mere humans, to possess perfect wisdom? Of course not. We can, and should, strive for perfection in everything that we do and say. We should strive for that perfection in dealing with fellow man, honoring our parents, and showing God's love to others. Although we know that we are imperfect created beings, lofty mental, physical and spiritual goals can help us to become closer to God.

Do you pray every morning for the wisdom to make it through the day? There is a joke about someone praying a prayer that lists quite a few sins and closes with "… and I haven't gotten out of bed yet." If we are honest with ourselves and God, who knows all about us, we will realize that we commit many sins within the period of a day. Alongside of that, if we diligently study God's word, we will see that those sins are forgiven if we just ask.

Do you pray throughout the day over decisions that you have to make? The only way to be successful in life is to involve God in all decisions that you make. He can provide the guidance and wisdom to handle any situation. You should realize that if God has a task designed just for your talents and you make the commitment to God to do all that he wills for your life, it will work out for the best in your life and for advancement of God's kingdom here on earth.
