Sunday 7/14/13 Pastor Michael sermon Blind Side-Overcoming Blind Spots in Our Lives Revelation 3:14-22
In 2009 there was a movie named Blind Side. It was about a NFL football player with a troubled past which involved drug addicted parents. He was a tall, burly man and he went to a Christian school. The school coaches there thought he would be great at football because of his size. It turned out he was not aggressive enough for football. He had a gentle nature and was not an angry person. As a child he learned to close his eyes and ignore what was happening around him. When he shut his eyes, he didn’t recognize who he really was or what he could do. He had a blind side.
In our text, the church of Laodecia had blind spots. They were a “walking contradiction”. They professed to be up high but really were low. They thought because they had a lot of stuff and were rich, they didn’t need anything. They could not see how they were spiritually poor. They had all this stuff but there was really nothing there. They did not see how God saw them. They were trying to impress each other but were not pleasing to God. God said Laodecia was a lukewarm church with one foot in the church and one foot in the world. God said he would spue them, vomit them out of his mouth. To avoid this, they must do things different.
1) See Your True Spiritual Condition:
Don’t be under self-deception. See where you really are spiritually. See that you really need what you think you don’t need. Just because you have money does not mean you don’t need God! Don’t compare yourself to others but you need to go by God’s standard. Get a visitation from God because we need Him. Get in God’s presence and get help from the Lord. We need change in our lives. We need prayer because every time we think we are thru with “it”, something happens to pull us back in.
We need God every single second of our lives to control us. We have our SNAP moments! God restrains us and keeps us cool. Don’t pretend like we got it going on and don’t need God. Don’t pretend that we don’t have issues and don’t need God. We need God!! Money doesn’t impress God! We need to sing “I need thee, Oh I need thee” to God. This is because every moment of the day we need God! Every hour we need God! We need to be concerned about what God thinks.
2) Take a True Look at Our Moral Condition:
The church of Laodecia was morally bankrupt. They were morally bankrupt because they had replaced moral justice with what they thought was good. They were bankrupt morally and trying to hide it with “stuff” and “riches”. Laodecia is really a 21st century church that calls “wrong” right and “right” wrong. The church is in agreement with the world’s standards of today. The moral issues are being replaced with worldly issues. We need to pray for our nation and remember that God is the final authority. We have gotten away from the standard of the Word of the Living God, the Bible. God has standards that we cannot compromise on. His standards cannot be compromised. God is still in Charge!! Don’t be blind. We need God!!
