| | | What does modesty and Holiness mean to you? I feel that the church has fallen short when it comes to modesty and purity and holiness. I see the "Christians" prostituting the temple of the Holy Spirit, like a prostitiute, even pastors and leaders? Where is the Godly example, I ask you? God says if you cause someone to stumble, we will be judged. When we get saved, our bodies are no longer our own, they are the temple where the holy spirit dwells. It is no longer ours to do with as we please, but it is now Christs temple and not to be desecrated like the world.
God says without Holiness, we will not see the face of God. I have a bunch of scriptures on holiness, if you want them, but I am not going to list them if no one is going to read them.
What do you guys think?
God says that the older mature women are to teach the younger women in the bible about Modesty.
Modesty in the dictionary means (Websters) Not exposing your body, not indecent, humbleness, Propriety, Chaste (Pure)
Propriety- Proper fitting suitable, acceptable standare of manner or behavior, prudent
Prudent - Discreet in conduct
Holiness- Sacred ( set apart) consecreted- Deep reverance and respect for God, Dedication or Devotion, deep affection
We need to examine ourselves and our motives on why we wear what we wear. Pray over it. Ask God if this is pleasing in his sight. (Do not grieve the Holy Spirit)
Ask the Lord if it will be a true witness to the world that you are indeed a born again christian and does it glorify holiess and Christ. or are we dressing just like the world. If someone looked at you, could they tell if you are of the world or or Christ? We are to be set apart and separate from the world
Amen , be blessed. | Today

| | Re: What does modesty and Holiness mean to you? I tried to do all the truth of the Bible, not just half of it. I used to dress fully covered. It's not too weird. But it would be very weird and funny when I went to the beach or swimming pool. People gazed at me like seeing an alien from another planet. I didn't care...cause I just tried to be modest and holy...LOL.. yeah, I am an alien in this world. |

| | | Re: What does modesty and Holiness mean to you? Any and EVERYTHING is a matter of the heart of the person. Men's everyday wear is not provocotive, but if I have lust in my heart, I will always see something that is not readily recognizeable to the next person. Same with a woman. Obviously, I'm of African descent. We have "body". With that said, it doesn't matter WHAT we put on, unless it's two sizes too big, our hips and behind are going to be seen. If I'm not trying to seduce in what I wear then I am not responsible for the heart of the person who sees something when they look at me. Arab women who fully cover get raped. If a man has a lustful heart, he's going to lust. Point Blank. I like my clothes to fit me. Big clothes are not attractive. I don't dress to attract, I dress to please me. I feel good when I look well put together. It does something for my self esteem. What men see when they look at me is their problem and something that they need to go to God about.
My four cents. |

| | Re: What does modesty and Holiness mean to you? The line of logic that's usually employed here is the same thing you get from adolescents who are trying to justify listening to immoral, secularized music; "I don't listen to the lyrics, I just like the beat." And the ever popular, "I can dress like a hootchie mama and strut around the mall looking at the posters at Ambercrombie because what's sin to others is not sin to me."
We are called not to cause our brothers or sisters to fall. We are not little, self-contained, Christian islands. If a woman is walking around church, singing hymns and spiritual songs in her heart, but you can see the same amount of cleavage that's on display at the Walmart checkout magazine display, I really don't care how much self-pleasure the woman is getting. Yes, we are all naturally sinful. So why be a tool in Satan's hands to help the process of sin along?
Modesty is never in style, and most women would much rather be in style than be modest. Same with Christian men; i've seen guys wearing wife-beaters in church services. For what? Because they need to puff up their self-esteem by letting everyone see their triceps? We're not even supposed to be concerned about our clothes, much less what we look like in them!
Give me a break. I have had to honestly look, as a Christian man, what I listen to, what I read and what I wear. I cannot, in good conscience, go out to the grocery store with sweat pants on. Too severe and prudish for you?, oh well. If you're so concerned about what the world thinks about what you look like, (or what you think you look like) why bother with Jesus anyway? You're either born of the Spirit or your not. There's no halfway point with picking up a cross.
I've had to learn all of this, unfortunately, the hard way. I work out, I like to wear stuff that makes me look sharp; but when it gets to the point where I might be doing the same thing to some other woman that a suggestively or immodestly dressed woman does to my sinful mind, I'd just as well take the time and effort not to.

| | | Re: What does modesty and Holiness mean to you? I would say that we should first be concerned with the condition of what is inside a person. Rather than what is on the outside. This is not to say that we can wear or present ourselves in any type of dress. But we should first fill the vessel from the inside. Like the pot that carries the water from the well. We cannot take any water from the well by pouring it on the outside of the pot. We can however fill the pot and hold the water by filling the inside of the pot.
Once we have filled a person with the living waters. Let them live for God. In doing so their own modesty and view of ones dress should change. If not then we have a responsiblity to approach them in love with scripture. So they know why and how to respect one self by the way they dress.
Men have a duty to not lust (ogle) after women who are so scantly clad. If men turned away from such women. This would reinforce the ideals of modest dress. |
