Default Waiting On the Lord

Waiting on the Lord and His guidance in our lives can be hard for us all too often. For me personally, sometimes its easy, sometimes its hard. When I wait for the Lords will concerning a subject that I dread facing, its easy to wait on the Lord. But I think most of us desire to do something greater in our walk. Something we can be proud of. Something we feel will make the Lord proud of us, something that we feel would prompt the Lord to speak those words we so want to hear "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" Yes, its hard to wait upon the Lord when He tells us to... "Wait!"
When He wishes us to learn patience, when He wishes us to learn to seek His will and not our own. We often eagerly await His will and when its not revealed to us quick enough, we step forward in what we like to say is faith, faith that God will bless our works because we do them to bring Glory to Him and perhaps just a bit to ourselves. Instead what the Lord truly needs is a servant like Abraham who was content with the humdrum of everyday life but willing to do the hard things when the Lord asked it of him, to be faithful to do His will when He wants it done and not walk in our own power.

Isa 40:31
Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weary.

Let us all learn to wait on the Lord for His will as given to us from His Spirit and then act on it, and not hesitate.

-Brad

Amen brother. I was just thinking about this today.

There is one prayer in my life that god has answered without question. I prayed 'Lord if there is any hope in me, of something that i hope will happen that will not, please remove that hope from me'.

And three years later, my hopes and dreams had all died. Now..there is only one hope. My hope is in Jesus christ. My future is in him. My life is in him. Whatever he wants to do with me at any given moment is fine.

(And i had some pretty ambisious hopes and dreams!)

The greatest work that god ever does I believe is in us. When we really understand our depravity and need for him, we shall be waiting on him to change us with eager anticipation. Our hope will be in him to work in us. Our hope will be in him finding pleasure in working in us. Anybody that hopes in Jesus, shall never be dissapointed. I have realised that Jesus and the father get much pleasure out of working in me. As they work in me, I start to reflect the glory of god, which gives the father MUCH pleasure. And what gives me pleasure...is to know that he finds pleasure in me.

If i am destined for some great work, it is the work of god in me. If i am destined to do something great for him in this world, it is this...reflecting his glory in ANY way that he deems fit. Even if that is scrubbing pots and pans, working at a dogpalour, caring for the elderly...., no matter. Its not what i do that makes me great, its who does it in me, and through me. And come to think of it. I dont want to be great, I seriously want him to work greatly in me, and through me. And therefore my hope is in him. Not in my dreams.

And while god is working in us...we wait....we patiently wait untill our fruit come in. Until Christ be formed in us completely...we wait.

Yes waiting is hard. But its an expectant kind of wait. And its a wait that is not without hope.

And our hope will not be dissapointed.

A lily does not know its splendor...yets is more spledid than king solomon and all his riches. Cause solomon knew his splendor. The glory of god is best reflected through those who have no desire to take it as their own, but to simply be.

You have no idea what glory you have. The day jesus returns, you shall see yourself as the real recreated glorious and spledid lily that god has made you into. And all while you were waiting and all while you felt more like a cactus than a lily. HEHE

God is good

Great Post. Just a side note here......the word wait in this verse is not a passive word. One meaning is to intwine yourself in. Just a thought about waiting to mean also being active but trusting.

Nice reminder, Doing! That is the same thing that strikes me about Psalm 46:10: it's such an active verse!!! Each of those first 4 words are speak to total intwining, full participation, involving all of our being.

Another thought...

Psa 131:1 A Song of degrees of David. LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
Psa 131:2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.
Psa 131:3 Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

Oh, Keith, how this speaks to me this morning! To totally humble myself, to set aside all vain glory, not to take on things beyond me, but to hope (move on into grace) in the Lord more and more. Returning not to things already achieved or that I'm not called to, giving back ground or falsely conquering in His name, but to let God work His perfect and holy will in me.
