He is given the power by men. And those are the men he has power over. The pope has no power over me or over you.

Well I am pretty sure that the pope is elected on a vote from the cardinals and the selection is one of the cardinals, but I dont know how cardinals are selected or bishops or such, if you have to climb the ladder so to speak.

Frankly, I think you are being dishonest. If you really wanted an answer, you would have read my OP here: The Pope

That explains it all. But you don't want answers: You just want to perpetuate your protestant heresies against the papacy.

I personally think this is a loaded question....

Here's another question for you... who gave Peter (the first pope) authority over the first church (the church of the apostles)?

Here's a hint:

Mathew 16:18

"And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."

Also, the way you phrase the question is misleading i.e. "power over people" ... the pope is the head the Church... like any leader, he is in a position of authority. He does not "control" people - he is in a position to influence people and there is nothing wrong with that - isn't that what the apostles did?

I mean that. the last thing we need to do as fellow believers is to fight with each other and to become stumbling blocks.

Bless you all
