On the subject of purgatory, where we know the Catholics etc. and Reformers differ let me suggest looking at possible similarity. Could repentance a way of purging our sins ?

I know we have a habit or tendency to check or read the last page and sometimes overlook the previous pages. Pardon me for reminding to look back at preceeding page/s.

I also like CS Lewis's books, and I also believe a purging shall be done after our spirit leaves our body, when exactly I am not sure, and some of it is done here on earth, but I agree that there is a refining done while in our spirit alone. There may be rare cases of those who have arrived at spiritual pureness while on earth, but I think it rather rare. The holiness of Christ "covers us" for those of us called by His name, making us acceptable for heaven, but the inner being must be conquered before we can be let out and about in the heavenly realm.

I cannot imagine how anyone or any group on earth can imagine it has all truth, even though I know John reported (14:26) that Jesus said "the Holy Spirit...will teach you everything..." Because Jesus didn't say when that teaching will be done, I have great hope for it to come, and faith that it will come, but I don't know if or when Thomas or Paul or anyone else got all truth.
I agreed with these before but since that time I found a better answer. Eschator83 you wrote that you don't know if or when Thomas or Paul or anyone else got all truth

In Acts 20:27 Apostle Paul wrote or said " For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God."

In my last post I mentioned Apostle Paul. We read about Apostle Paul in the book of Acts, in Romans and in His letters or epistles to the churches. Paul who used to oppose the church later became a believer.

What an amazing turn around. Most or all biblical characters experienced amazing transformation. These gave patterns for us to emulate and this we do not do on our own but through the help of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Bible.

Sadly, my NAB and CCDR translations disagree on the phrase whole counsel of God, but CCDR and I'll guess KJV agree with you. My next step almost always is to follow this link to New Bible: xwww.classic.netbible.com]Apache2 Ubuntu Default Page: It works[/url]. I'll go now. Wait-stop-I don't know what this Apache/ Ubuntu is. It came up after I typed netbible. Could it be a virus link?
Here is the link I intended: NETBible: Matthew 1. As you can see, the key English word counsel is usually translated as plan, also motive. Paradoxically, the first usage given is 1 Cor 4:5: which KJV translates: Judge nothing until the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness...

Another way to deal with this is to read and study the writings and life of Apostle Paul. I do believe the Holy Spirit inspired Apostle Paul. What I found too is the Bible is a unified Book. Scriptures support or compliment and reinforce Scriptures.

Sorry about that default to Apache. You replied before I could check. But can you reconcile 1 Cor 4:5 with Act 21:27?

Strange, I did a #28 post on my ipad at 7:26 pm (not really my local time) but it doesn't appear here yet. Ah, there it is, just after I wrote and posted this.

I believe 1 Cor. 4:5 and Acts 20:27 are talking about different things. 1 Cor. 4:5 is talking about judging and counsels of individual hearts but Acts 20:27 is talking about teaching or counsel of God .
