Re: Taking the Lord's name in vain This is a good conversation, and I would agree with all so far.
True vanity is things that we do in the flesh, for the flesh is given to vanity. We take the Lords name in vain, when we call on God, or Christ, and not willing to change. This is vain because if we are not willing to change why do we yet call upon him? If we are not willing to change why do we continue in our rituals, making them vain practices also, even as we do them in the name of the Lord. If we are not willing to change ourselves why do some preach the word, and not willing to be cut by the word to suffer there own loss? If we are not willing to change why do we also continue to go to a physical church, but not willing to walk as Christ Church made without hands within ourselves. We continue to use the name of the Lord in vain, when we continue to make provisions for the flesh to continue in sin.
Now are we the sons of God, and if we cast our perils for swine, meaning to Give what belong to God, to the nature of man, then we are taking vain, and taking and calling upon the Lords name in vain.
Matthew 15
7Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
If our hearts are also far from God, then we also are vain, and take the Lords name in vain as we speak it. One my use the name of God or Christ as they speak it without any reason and is vain, but what is far more vain is for us to honor God with our mouth in praise and worship but the heart is far removed from him, by not being obedient, bring the flesh subject to the spirit.
