Default Bill Nye 'The Science Guy' Debates Ken Ham

I have actually watched 2 hours of this video and have 45 minutes to go... so far, it's an interesting debate (natural evolution verse young Earth creationist). To my surprise Ken Ham (the creationist) makes some good points about the flaws of natural Evolution. He pushes the idea that species can adapt and change over time but do not actually change into different species (dogs will always produce dogs). What is so disappointing, however, is when he starts pushing the whole "Earth is only 6,000 years old" deal into the debate.... after you hear that, the baby truly goes out with the bath water. It's just very hard to take anything else he says serious.

It would be so much better if we could focus on the flaws associated with 'natural evolution' without incorporating in the whole 'young Earth' thing. How many Christians really believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old? Why do they believe this? Written history goes back further than this

It does introduce a certain disconnect into the conversation. What is especially bad is that the bible does not present the earth as young or old.

Indeed... and the 'other side' loves to propagate the idea that "all creationists/Christians" are young Earthers - as if they go hand in hand.

Full transcript of this debate is here.

Mr. Ham maintains Old Earth theorist might have trouble with this one for instance:
“The gap theorist must also choose to ignore any evidence consistent with a belief in a young age for the earth, possibly no greater than 10,000 years. There is much evidence for this—e.g. the decay of the earth’s magnetic field, the quantity of meteoric dust on the moon, the breakup of galaxy clusters, etc.

Exodus 20:11 states, “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Note the emphasis, “and all that in them is.” If the fossil record was in the earth after the six days of creation and before Adam sinned (as gap theorists suppose), then God would have had to make that strata during the time limit of six days, since it is an integral part of “all that in them is”!”
Strata, being the plural of Stratum, is a single layer of sedimentary rocks which KH stresses the Old Earth theorist cannot have it both ways per his comment.
“For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is" (Ex20:11)
“gap theorists suppose, , the fossil record was in the earth after the six days of creation and before Adam sinned, , then God would have had to make that strata during the time limit of six days, since it is an integral part of “all that in them is”!””
Mike.
