Default What Love Means

Loving as one loves themselves requires a motive to bring some happiness and joy to the loved one. Effort and training may be needed in order to love properly; "and to be able to give happiness and joy, you must practice DEEP LOOKING directed toward the other person you love. Because if you do not understand this person, you cannot love . Understanding is the essence of love. If you cannot understand, you cannot love. That is the message of the Buddha." - Thich Nhat Hahn

Did Jesus teach the same or something different?

buddha doesn't hold a candle next to God!
buddha is dead, Jesus is alive!!!!

Its time to do some housecleaning Antonio and burn buddha,(or smash his head in with a concrete block like I did) and all his teachings, you can not be lukewarm, either you are for HIM or against HIM.

This an excellent example of "LOVE"..giving a great and useful gift to the one you love. God loved us and gave us the ultimate give that was for our greatest benefit.
Definition-- Love =1) giving something to the loved one and, 2)the gift however large or small is something the loved one will value and enjoy
Can we agree that this says what "Love" means in Jesus' teachings?

Please respond for It would be wonderful if we could all agree on one thing--what Jesus meant by love.

The depth of the love of JEsus can not be put into a definition, it is a love that is sooooooooooooo deep, if we only knew the depth of HIS love, we could not contain it.

Eph 3:16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,


Eph 3:17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,


Eph 3:18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

Eph 3:19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Eph 3:20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,


Eph 3:21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

The ulitmate gift of love was that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and that if we accept HIM as our Lord and Savior we will have eternal life with HIM in heaven when we die.

The Gift of Love, of Salvation, of Eternal Life can not be achieved thru any other means Antonio.

No other god, no other idol, no other means will ever fill that gap.

1 John 4: 7-12

In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love on another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love on another, God abides in us and His love is perfected in us.

Dear MM I love this verse. In fact reading it this time, reveals to me what "seeking the kingdom" means as being discussed on another thread.

I think this verse reveals what the earliest Christians, the ones who knew Jesus, were thinking --that for what God did for us, that His expectation was that we would love each other and that Love of each other is the Kingdom of God that is within. Why? Here is my reasoning from John's words.

God is love
God loves us
If we love, God is in us.
If God is in us, so is his Kingdom.
our relationship with God is perfected by this love.
