Wink Do we go to hell ? 2

Do we go to hell to be burned forever ?

The Greek word " Gehenna" translated hell comes from the Hebrew" Ghi- Hinnom" the name of a valley south of Jerusalem.

Here King Ahaz and others sacrificed their sons to the god Molech.

2Ch 28:3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.

This is the area that became the garbage dump for the city. What remained from thr fire was eaten by worms. Jesus uses the word Gehenna as a symbol of complete and utter destruction, not as a term denoting preservation in torment.

Fire is used in scripture for utter destruction , not for preservation in torment.
Sodom and Gommorah were utterly destroyed by fire, and brimstone, suffering the vengance of eternal fire.

In Revelations fire and brimstone is said to issue from the horses mouths, this is certainly not fire from hell.

Rev 9:17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses [were] as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.

Rev 9:18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

Rev 9:19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails [were] like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

LET THE READER LOOK CLOSELY THE FIRE AND BRIMSTONE ARE DONE IN THE PRESENCE OF JESUS AND THE HOLY ANGELS.

HOW COULD THIS POSSIBLY BE IN HELL? ARE YOU SAYING JESUS GOES TO HELL WITH THE ANGELS,
HOW FOOLISH.

Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Describe how death and hell are cast into the lake of fire? If you can.

How can death be cast into a lake of fire?

How can the lake of fire be hell?

If you throw hell into the lake of fire how does it become the second death
?

May God bless your study of His Holy bible.

Yes your right, they are very good posts. Gehenna, hades, sheoul, tartaroo, all have to be understood seperately.

Re: Hell Described in detail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
‘Hell’ deserves a comprehensive study.
You can't just pluck 'Hell' out of the primitive misconception from which it has emerged.

According to my information, within the Apostolic writings there are three words that, 400 years ago, were mistranslated in the main, to reflect the primitive view of what, at that time, was called Hell.
They are:
‘Gehenna’ meaning, valley of the sons of Hinnom (the fire of Molech)
‘Tartaroo’ meaning in popular Greek mythology, lower than ‘hades’
and
‘Hades or Sheol’, meaning, the realm of the dead, or the grave,
And they occur 24 times in the New Testament as listed below.

I suggest that everyone empties their minds of their preconceptions of ‘Hell’ and reads the scriptures a little closer to how they were written, keeping firmly in mind what each of the three alternative original words actually meant.
Having done that have a rethink of what, in 2009 terms, might really be the prospect for ‘life’ after death.

Hell, as the concept gradually developed in medieval minds, was not, as I am led to believe, what Gehenna, Tartarroo, or Hades were held to mean by the early church.

I can understand the need for judgement, I can understand that it will involve a trial of fire (metaphorically IMHO since it can only be metaphorically that ‘works’ will be gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or stubble)… but raised from the dead in order to be tortured by God for eternity?….how primitive can you get in the name of religion?

Man can lay no other foundation than that of Jesus Christ.
A man may build upon this foundation with gold, silver, or precious stones, or he may build with wood, hay, or stubble.
Therefore when the day shall declare it, every man's work shall be made manifest because it shall be revealed by fire which shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
Any of man's work which he hath built thereupon which survives the fire, shall earn a reward.
But if any man's work shall be burned, that man shall suffer loss: although he himself shall be saved; yet only through fire.

Read the following ‘Gehenna’ scriptures with that ‘judgement of fire’ in mind:

Gehenna: meaning, valley of the sons of Hinnom (the fire of Molech)
Matthew 5:22
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of Gehenna fire.
Matthew 5:29
And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into Gehenna.
Matthew 5:30
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into Gehenna.
Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
Matthew 18:9
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into Gehenna fire.
Matthew 23:15
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of Gehenna than yourselves.
Matthew 23:33
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of Gehenna?
Mark 9:43
And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into Gehenna, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
Mark 9:45
And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into Gehenna, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
Mark 9:47
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into Gehenna fire:
Luke 12:5
But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into Gehenna; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
James 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of Gehenna.

Thanks for saving me so much time. I dont have to go through all the explanations of all the words.

May God bless your study of His holy Bible

Do we go to hell? Of course not. Haven't you heard? Everyone's going to purgatory and then after we've all completed our own personal pennances we'll all be set free someday by the happy pope and his band of merry priests riding white donkeys following the virgin mary riding a great white stallion with her son Jesus riding in her lap eating figs and dates singing roll on Jordan let me soak my tush in your cool waters!

exchristian, you look like an ex-girlfriend of mine. She didn't hang around very long either.

Do we go to hell? Well, this guy did:

A Personal Trip to Hell Heaven Awaits

Apart from a video I've seen when someone tries to convince us that God exists because a banana is so perfectly formed for eating (I am not making this up - I may post it if I can find it), this vid is the most unbelievable pile of ordure that it has ever been my misfortune to sit through.

If you believe this guy, then all is lost.

I think Micheals Avatar is from a picture out of the twilight zone series of some time ago (black and white tv times). Some raggety looking guy isnt he?
